***UND 2018 Off Season Thread***

Re: ***UND 2018 Off Season Thread***

Couldn't score on the PP and couldn't score period.

I thought that North Dakota dominated Manitoba (as they should). The game was not nearly as close as the final score. I know some use the "hot goalie" as an excuse more often than they should (and do so simply when there were a lot of SOGs, and not necessarily a lot of great quality chances), but I thought that Manitoba's goalie made some very good saves on some high quality opportunities. It could have easily been an 8-2 game.

I'm going to disagree with you a little here. Yes, UND did pour a ton of shots on goal, but it's hard for me to sit back and think of any really outstanding chances that UND had. A lot of pretty easy saves.

Before the season started I privately worried about where the goal scoring will come from on this team. I still worry about that. A lot. We're going to need our young goaltenders and a pretty decent d-corps to keep us in some games this year until we can get a greasy goal or two.

It's years like this when I wish we had Hakstol back as coach. It's certainly arguable that he might not have gotten everything he could have out of uber-talented UND squads, but those years where our best players were guys like Pattyn, Dave always knew how to keep the team detail oriented and in the games.

How did Hain look?

I thought Hain looked decent. I guess if I had to choose one word to describe his play, it would be "energy." He was pretty relentless on the forecheck. There were a couple of times when he put himself in a good position to score just due to his own effort, but the game still seemed a little fast for him. There were other shifts though, where you didn't really notice him out there. That will change and I think he will be a fun player for UND fans to watch these next few years.
