Two of the best pure goal-scorers to come through UND in the last 20 years will be teammates on Barys Astana (KHL) this year. Matt Frattin has signed to join Brandon Bochenski there.

Playing in the KHL would probably be a pretty cool life experience.

It would be a fabulous experience if they could step away from the hockey team environment a little bit. I don't know how much that happens.

Ten players from UND’s 2016 NCAA national championship team are expected to be at the camp, including Nick Schmaltz (Blackhawks), Tucker Poolman (Jets), Paul LaDue (Kings), Christian Wolanin (Senators), Gage Ausmus (Colorado ECHL), Keaton Thompson (Anaheim), Cam Johnson (New Jersey), Luke Johnson (Chicago), Trevor Olson (Tampa Bay ECHL) and Shane Gersich, who won the Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals this spring. Bryn Chyzyk, now at law school at UND, also skated Monday.

It is shaping up to be a good year. Strong recruiting class this year and next year looks as good or better. If there will be any Sioux fans in Vegas for the HOF game :D, hit me up for a beer.

UND is ranked No. 11 in the first preseason national poll. Every NCHC team is either ranked or receiving votes: 1. Duluth, 6. SCSU, 9. Denver, 11. NoDak, 19. Western Michigan, RV CC, RV Omaha, RV Miami.

Christian Wolanin - Belleville

Austin Polanski - San Antonio

Adam Tambeleavi - Belleville

Still fighting for spot:

Luke Johnson - strong chance he makes it, but has the flu and will miss a key preseason game.

Paul LaDue - also good chance for roster spot

Rocco Grimaldi - With the preds down a F for woman beater Watson’s suspension, he’s in the mix.

Drew Stafford - Was looking like PTO would land him a spot but make but now in doubt with a free agent signing of another F.

Jordan Schmaltz - Will make opening night roster due to Botuzzo suspension

Tucker Poolman - good chance to be the 7th D roster spot to start

Coban Knight - was looking good but was injured last night, Out 3 weeks. Most likely start in Leigh Valley now, tough tough break.

Finally the week has arrived for the season opener. Not sure what to expect this season but they will be better than 5th in the NCHC unlike they have been predicted to finish. Let's Go!!!!
