UML Recruiting Thread, 2014 and beyond

Re: UML Recruiting Thread, 2014 and beyond

Recruit Guillaume Leclerc is listed on the France roster for the IHF U20 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP DIV I GROUP B tournament that begins Saturday.

http://www.iihf.com/competition/542/statistics.html

France won the tournament and has been promoted to a higher division for next year. LeClerc finished with 1-5-6 +4 and earned some kind of top forward award:

Re: UML Recruiting Thread, 2014 and beyond

Providence continues to load up. I'm not sure what happened at Penn State but Leaman was willing to take him.

‏@OverTheBoards
95 F Scott Conway (@PentictonVees) commits to PC. Friars offense get a big boost - 77 pts in 36 games, had 26 pts as a fr. at PSU last year.

Re: UML Recruiting Thread, 2014 and beyond

They may not be playing good hockey, but Maine's recruiting has really picked up. Two Red Bull Austria commitments in the last 24 hours (both '99s). They've got at least four potential draft picks committed already.

Good move for him. He'll excel and be a superstar there. Wasn't progressing and developing enough for DI so good fit for him.

Stinks for Lowell that he wasn't able to fit into D1, but good for him to continue his playing days.

Re: UML Recruiting Thread, 2014 and beyond

And in the meantime, Lowell continues to have the smallest recruiting class for 2017...

Re: UML Recruiting Thread, 2014 and beyond

4 Forwards, 1 Defenseman, and a goalie to replace 5 forwards (although Fallon/Francis basically count as 1 everyday forward), no D, and 1 Goalie. [for 2016]

Flight risks are CJ Smith and Zink, plus maybe we lose one of the sophomores to a transfer?

__________
I wrote all this thinking you were commenting on 2016, now realizing you said 2017, and wow seems like some work needs to get done/they are keeping recruits a secret (I don't believe this, but here's to hoping).

The program is certainly over due for some news. Is new assistant coach Andy Jones the lead recruiter now? I wonder if he brought some new contacts with him from Clarkson. Not surprising, the current Clarkson roster has a good number of player's from the OJHL &, CJHL. Currently Lowell has one player on the roster from those leagues (Collins).

Would you consider Campbell a flight risk given he's a draft pick and its his Junior year? I'm thinking he comes back since he's having a down year and he was also drafted under the previous Oilers regime.

I don't think they are keeping the recruits a secret either. It's certainly disappointing to see them falling farther and farther behind.

I am disappointed it didn't work out. I was looking forward to seeing a local kid like him play. I recall Hokydad spoke highly of him and said is a good leader and would be a good fit for Lowell.

Re: UML Recruiting Thread, 2014 and beyond

Every ****ing year we are behind in recruiting... Would be nice to be up on the game some day.

One thing for sure, Lowell can't be accused of over recruiting.

The lack of news is frustrating but Norm has a recruiting philosophy and I guess we can't complain too much as it's been very successful. My fear is that philosophy will only get the program to certain level without a few top young recruits. I realize they will never win recruiting battles with the BU/BC's of the world but I would like to think they can compete with the rest of the league and other top 15 programs. I'm not sure it's fair to say Lowell can't land top recruits because it's hard to tell if they are even going after them.

Hokydad also said Malcolm Lyles who transferred from BC to Lowell had cache too and look how that worked out. Basically was the "in case of emergency, break glass defenseman."

Plus I heard Sifferlen had never been extended a NLI from UML so he would've basically been a walk-on anyway.
