UML Recruiting Thread, 2014 and beyond

Re: UML Recruiting Thread, 2014 and beyond

well, supposedly that's been Norm's thing... supposedly... I honestly dont get it... I really really don't get it

It just seems weird, because every player and junior team is going to want to release they got a new recruit. Especially if they are the undiscovered gems which I guess is the idea of what we are getting

Re: UML Recruiting Thread, 2014 and beyond

Is there any chance commitments are coming and the players are just not reporting them to their junior teams? I am pulling at straws here, that number is frightening..
I would doubt it. That's not generally how this is done. Unlike the new freshman goalie we picked up really late last year, we've known about all the other commits for a while.

other theory, players don't exist until Norm creates them into existence... just a theory

Re: UML Recruiting Thread, 2014 and beyond

Lowell adds Kenneth Hausinger out of the USHL per Heisenberg.

Thanks!

Random thoughts ... I'd assume he's coming in as a walk-on? A '95 DOB? He's only 5'8 as well. Was a Sacred Heart commit. Anyway, when was the last time we had a player from Alaska? Welcome to Ken! His younger brother plays in the WHL currently (a '99).

BTW, the '16 incoming class is completely all 20 and 21 year old freshmen. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it, I don't like that. Of course, if the B1G NCAA change goes into effect...

That was my initial reaction as well. Norm must be stocking up on the 21 year olds while he still can. I have a feeling that legislation will pass.

I don't see if passing only because you're going to really water down the talent level and hurt the game as a whole.

If that's what the B1G cared about, this would not be an issue. They hate that they're not winning because "Doesn't everyone understand, we're the B1G and we should win at hockey! Just look at the big name schools we have!" They recruit and get the best 17/18 year olds, and the fact that other schools (like ours) can't get those kids is obviously not their fault, and we shouldn't be able to even up the matchups just by having older players. Even if that's been legal.

The issue is the voting members of that NCAA committee aren't necessarily going to look for that. They will see two P5 conferences (the B1G and ACC) come in agreeing on this proposal, and most of the other D1 conferences not really having an opinion. This is not going to be a hill the Atlantic Sun decides to die on for a bunch of D2 schools.

Ken is leading Des Moines in scoring (15-27-42) and is currently tied for 10th in the USHL. In 2014-2015 he finished 4th in scoring (25-43-68) in the NAHL for Odessa. He missed the majority of the 2013-2014 season due to injury.

It would be nice to get some younger recruits.

Re: UML Recruiting Thread, 2014 and beyond

Totally agreed. Despite not having many recruits beyond next year, I feel really good about next year's class. I think Lohin and Goransson could be impact players as freshmen. This new commit sounds like he'll be productive too.
LeClerc is another one I'm looking forward to seeing play.

As Monty mentioned, the younger brother Cameron ('99) is playing in the WHL.
