UML Recruiting: Finally in the 20s!

Nick Rheume back in the portal too

24/25: +/- was -16, CHIP was 0.4
23/24: +/- was -12, CHIP was -1
22/23: +/- was -1, Din’t have CHIP rating then

I think his best season was his freshman season. I remembered his play in a more positive way back then as compared to now.

He seemed like he had a lot of promise but has regressed. Not that impressive lately.

His cousin, a defenseman from Michigan, is also in the portal. Maybe he’s planning to land somewhere where he can play with him?

Nice to see us getting some drafted players again

Based on the Sun article, the defense for 25/26 is currently at 8. The article did not mention August Classon. Whether it 8 or 9 the defense looks to be set for next season. Now it's time to work on the forwards.

I liked this quote from Norm.
“We’re looking for immediate contributions because they have experience and size,” Bazin said. “They both skate well. I’m optimistic we’re going to be a better skating team next year than we were last year. I think skating is everything. It’s faster every year.”

I updated Monty's roster breakout for the defense for 25/26

25/26 roster

Defense
(8):
Seniors: , T.J. Schweighardt
Juniors: Sean Kilcullen
Sophomore: Daniel Buchbinder
Freshmen: James Johnson, Josh Mori, Luke Shipley, Nate Misskey, Tnias Mathurin

August Classon?

I mean they're coming here and not the AHL, maybe they need some rounding out but I suspect maybe they don't.

Could debate whether or not the AHL is worth it versus getting a start on college. If the NHL still has an interest in them if Lowell was suggested that can only be good for us

For Nate Misskey, I can say he's looked good this year in the WHL and I like this next step for him. He would be an overager next season and I don't know if he fits in Victoria's plans. He was drafted last summer, but it was his D+1 season, so he has one less year of junior eligibility compared to other WHL draft picks. The WHL-AHL transition is a really tough learning curve for most defensemen and college is a great proving ground.

Former NHL defenseman Luca Sbisa will probably be at a few of your games this year. He's on the Sharks development staff and travels to watch the drafted defensemen play. The Sharks have plenty of connections in Hockey East (GM and coach former terriers, Muldowney at UConn, Svoboda at BU, Lund just left Northeastern). I don't think they have many UML connections besides trading for Carl Berglund last month and signing Carter Hutton.

I have watched a lot of Nate Misskey all year and I think he's a good bet to take for you guys. No promises I am not biased though. If you want to watch him during their playoff run, WHL playoffs are streamed free on Victory+. Victoria Royals play Game 3 tomorrow night 7:05pm PT, series tied 1-1.
