UML Recruiting: Finally in the 20s!

Goaltender Jack Solomon has been called up to Sioux Falls (USHL).

The Austin Bruins would like to extend their congratulations to Jack Solomon on his call-up to the Sioux Falls Stampede of the USHL this week! We’re proud to see him take the next step in his journey. Best of luck, Jack—go make us proud!

Nice! Our first Major Junior recruit. They needed a puck moving one too. Looking at the stat sheets, many of the current D recruits appear to be the stay at home types.

I saw this on X.

I have a team full of players that need a home next season. I made a promise to them we will do whatever it takes to get them properly placed back in NCAA hockey. In this ever changing landscape of college athletics we are going to make an effort to get as many players under one roof to get them proper exposure. This Transfer Portal Showcase will also allow current NCAA coaches to get a live viewing and have the ability to meet and speak with players in person. It’s a win/win for both players/colleges.

Just found that the 2025 recruiting class for Lowell is ranked 51st by NZ (outside of 64 programs), based on point rankings. Their explanation for the points algorithm is that it is designed to weight players according to their age, the league they come from, and their star rating. They're showing 9 commits for 2025, and doesn't yet include Mori.

The 2026 recruiting class shows 6 players that have actually been rated (Olsen, Kresl, Jones, McCarthy, Grumley, and Herres) and includes unrated Buckley as well, but I don't think that all these kids are coming in 2026 is currently ranked 9th. They only show Pedalino for 2027.

NCAA Considering Offering All Student-Athletes Five Years of Eligibility

"...the NCAA is expected to discuss this possible change early in 2025, but there's no real timetable regarding a decision...Specifics regarding this potential rule change also remain vague at this time."

Too early to know for sure, but could throw a wrench into every school's plans.

Also, at this point, I'm going to assume Tate Brandon is not going to play any minutes this year... if this ends up being true, could we get him next year if he/the coaching staff want? Or does simply dressing as the third goalie and sitting on the bench the whole season use up eligibility?

He's in his final year of eligibility, he can't return next season.

It looks like he already had that redshirt year at Skidmore. He played there 4 years, one with 0 games played and now he's in his 5th season of eligibility. I don't think they allow for six seasons in this case. Medical redshirt might allow for six.

That year was 2020-2021, which doesn't count towards anyone's eligibility because of COVID. So COVID year + redshirt year = six years?

Everyone was given a 5th year whether they played or not during the COVID year. He's in his 5th year, so he's not eligible after this season.

Redshirting is completely separate from the extra eligibility from the COVID year. Normally, everyone has five years to use four seasons of eligibility. If one of those years was 2020-2021, this five years becomes six years. If he doesn't play at all this year, this would be his redshirt season and not count towards his eligibility, unless him dressing just to sit on the bench all season counts, which I can't confirm either way.

"Under the current rules, athletes are allowed to play four seasons during a five-year period. This was extended to six years for athletes who had their careers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic."

This is probably a moot point because yes, there is a large chance he doesn't come back next year regardless. But it seems like if he and Norm would both want it, he would be eligible to. The same would go for Nordlund, but I'm sure at this point Norm does not plan on bringing him back.

Mori's 3.75* moved Lowell to 44th for the 2025 class, but they're also still including Dolzhenko (3.5*) and Guest (3.75*) as commits, neither of whom will be playing at Lowell.

Kyle Jones listed at #24 on the NHL Central Scoutiing Mid-Term Rankings for North American Goalies. From a quick look, he's the only Lowell conmit listed.
