UML Recruiting: Finally in the 20s!

NHL Central Scouting released their preliminary list of players and grades today.
https://media.d3.nhle.com/image/private/t_document/prd/ogubdxgwtxuj3vcspjca.pdf

For the first time in awhile, Lowell actually has a recruit on the list. Easton Jacobs was given a W rating (6th/7th rd candidate).

Here is the distribution for Hockey East. I didn't notice any for UConn or Maine.

BU = 7
Providence = 7
BC = 5
NU = 5
Merrimack = 5
UNH = 5
UMass = 3
Lowell = 1
Vermont = 1
UConn = 0
Maine = 0

Merrimack, wow.

Recruit stats as of 11/7/23.

I just saw this post by Mike McMahon:

Merrimack received a commitment from 2004-born defenseman Seamus Powell (★★★★) on Thursday.
Powell will have three years of eligibility remaining. Last season, he was a freshman at Boston College but left the program and returned to the USHL to play for the Dubuque Fighting Saints this season...

Although I think the Hawks are set for defensemen this looks like a nice get for Merrimack. Powell played for the USNTDP before heading to BC. I have no idea why he returned to the USHL after playing one season (21 games) for BC.

It looks like Lee Parks (6-5-11) is adjusting to the USHL. After having only 2 goals in the first 10 games, he's had 9 points in the last 6 games.

Updating the Lowell roster going out a couple of years. Obviously a lot can change between now and then. For now, I'm listing all the current commits in either 24 or 25 (I'm sure one of two will push to 2026 for their freshman year. We currently do not have a goalie set for the 2025/2026 season.

If we use this season as an example, we have 18 forwards and 10 defensemen. So using that, I can imagine we'll still add another forward for next year? But we still need three for 2025. And of course, a goalie or two.

24/25 roster

Defense (10):
Seniors: Gabe Blanchard, Isac Jonsson
Juniors: Mitchell Becker, Mark Cooper, T.J. Schweighardt
Sophomore: Ben Brunette, Adam Cardona, Sean Kilcullen
Freshmen: Daniel Buchbinder, Daniil Dolzhenko

Forwards (17):
Seniors: Owen Cole, Matt Crasa, Stefan Owens
Juniors: Dillan Bentley, Jack Collins, Owen Fowler, Nick Rheaume, Roc Truman, Scout Truman
Sophomores: Jonathan Horn, Jaiden Moriello, Shawn O'Donnell, Grant Silkalns, Jan Vaarwerk
Freshmen: Dylan Cook, Libor Nemec, Lee Parks

Goalies (2):

Two of the top scorers (Cranston and Schwartz) in the BCHL committed today to MC and QU. Both are '04s and have a NZ rating of 4. I wonder if Norm was interested.

— I’m just throwing this out there for all the folks who keep believing that NIL money isn't in college hockey yet.

I heard another story over the weekend of a recruit being offered a six-figure NIL deal. In this case, it was $100,000 over four years ($25,000 per year) on top of a scholarship. A source with the program that offered the deal confirmed it.

Don't believe NIL money isn't in college hockey. It's here, and it's already playing a role.
