UML Recruiting, Building for the future

USHL Phase 2 draft today (yesterday was '97s only)... and it was ... successful, putting it mildly, for Lowell.

Two future recruits were picked in the first round, Tommy Panico (3rd overall) and Nick Master (5th overall). CJ Smith (2nd round, 17th overall) and Colin O'Neill (14th round 203rd overall) could join Panico at Muskegon next year. Tyler Sifferlen (16th round, 230th overall) was taken by Cedar Rapids, where he could join Master. Ryan Collins was taken in the 15th round (201 overall) by Indiana.

Probably the most successful Lowell's ever been.

Lowell could have as many as 7 recruits playing in the USHL next year.

Just have to work on getting the equiv in the NHL draft ;)

A boy can dream

Cedar Rapids is extremely high on Master. They scouted him continuously all year.

Of course, the hope is that if/when these kids succeed, they don't get lured by one of the midwest schools.

If Lowell keeps winning, they won't have anything to worry about there. Bazin and his staff has done a remarkable job recruiting!

Still playing:

Recruit Dylan Zink and the Jamestown Ironmen begin play tonight for the 2013 NAHL Robertson Cup National Championship.

Recruit Corey Scammon and the Brooks Bandits are playing in the RBC Cup tournament on Saturday. I believe Corey did not play in the recent Western Canada Cup tournament due to injury.

We will see! This team has a lot going for them right now... But he will be given his shot, that's for sure. Bazin loves for people to compete in practice

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

I am really looking forward to seeing Sifferlen and Master in camp at the end of the month. If they make the team I will report their progress throughout the year.

I wouldn't be worried about Midwest schools swooping in on them, as Carlson is a UML alum and has a history of sending players to Lowell. Most recently Ryan McGrath and Greg Amlong.

Thanks for the info ... I'm a little surprised he's walking on this year, instead of going to juniors. Not too often you see a kid go right from high school to D1 hockey...

He was named second team All-MIAA this year, fellow recruit Sifferlen was a HM.

Other factors involved? Parents have a different take on the world?

Our last straight from HS did ok but not up to the hype. Nevertheless, if he is a recruited walk-on then there must be something there.

Not good ...

I did think though with math like this, no wonder they're not doing well.... ;)
I hate math and I can work this out. 1 1/2 hrs (Game) + 1 1/2 hrs practice = 3 hrs ice time- 750$

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

UConn lost a 2014 recruit today as Jason Salvaggio (Select Academy) decommits. I wonder if he'll visit Lowell too.
Over The Boards‏@OTBPuckWatch
Now uncommitted, 94 F Salvaggio has told us he is visiting half of Hockey East this week: UVM, UNH, UMass, PC and Merrimack.
