UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Ah ... combining the two, now it makes sense.

They do have Casey Shea (Woburn) coming in next year, who's local. But yeah, this is probably the first time in a long time that we've had a sizable class without one Mass kid.

I'm agnostic to it... get good teams and they will come... and who is to say what the turnover in coaches did... not to slight Bazin as such but hockey is a network game.

It was early (late?) when I wrote that, and had another thought in there. My editing skills were not up to par yesterday morning. But yeah, not one local kid coming in this year is what I found interesting. It seemed under Blaise that there were many local kids in the Lowell sweater. I like that Bazin is grabbing kids from Michigan, Mizzou, Russia, and Sweden.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

How much time will Hellebuyck get this season? I assume DougCarr stays all four years so the battle between the pipes could get even more interesting in 2013.

Great article on Doug Carr posted on the College Hockey Prospective site viabthe Beanpot Orum..check it out

Thanks for passing on the link.

The question about Hellebuyck is a great one. I know when he committed, he had mentioned that the coaches recruiting him had said they'd give him a real shot to start.

I think if you end up with another Hutton/Hamilton situation, I'm fine with that to an extent. I do think Carr started to get tired towards the end of the season, but that also could be from recovering from off season surgery and not being able to put in a full off season conditioning program. If Carr has a season like last year, Hellebuyck might see 10 games this year...

and you take what comes... Hellebuyck might be a great talent we'll talk about for generations... but right now Carr is pretty **** good. He'll get his opportunity... I'd be happy if they both post 2.1-2.2 GAA and we're arguing over who gets the start in the NCAAs.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Hey everyone! Really excited about the new season, and ultimately how this fresh crop of talent will play. One thing that I always find fascinating is the other schools that were trying to recruit these freshmen. Does anyone have any insight on which other schools were also in the running for these guys? I find it interesting, as hockey players are selected for many reasons such as personality, talent, etc. But there are guys that fit into a team system, and I am curious to know what schools saw this same need. For instance, I know that there is a player that was originally committed to Lowell, but since the coaching change, de-committed and now is enrolled with NU. I find it fascinating that NU saw a similar need. Anyway, if anyone could shed some light, I would greatly appreciate it!
Hope everyone is having a great summer.

I honestly didn't hear much from any of the recruits as to where they were looking.
What do you guys think of Cam Ellsworth?
Other than the success of the program, it seems like he's done pretty well recruiting. But it's tough to tell too much about the assistants through just one year, at least from my POV.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

From the Countdown to Faceoff Blog...
September is a crucial recruiting month with various showcases throughout North America. As a staff of three we will cover showcases in Chilliwack (British Columbia), Edmonton (Alberta), Humboldt (Saskatchewan), Ottawa (Ontario), Blaine (Minnesota), Sioux City (Iowa) and Marlborough (Massachusetts). All of these showcases last around three days with the games starting at 9AM and usually ending at 10PM. You got it….all day in a freezing cold rink after flying six hours to Vancouver and then driving ninety minutes to Chilliwack.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Something to think about. Lowell and PC are the only two programs in HE that don't have a commitment for 2014 (or beyond). Lowell will have 9 graduating seniors to replace that year.

PC just got a commit for '14 or '15, a Cushing RW.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Both, UML and PC, are climbing pretty quickly. PC is going to be atop the Hockey East standings very soon with Nate Leaman recruiting.

If UML has another great season, I think more kids will start looking at coming in. I hope UML can start grabbing more guys from the USHL than they have been.

Well, they did bring in 3 from the USHL this past season, and they have two kids for 2013 (out of 4) that potentially will be playing in the USHL.

I do agree though that I think Lowell needs to have one more year to start picking up some higher end recruits (and I think J.T. Stenglein, coming in next year, could be one of those).

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Recruit Cory Scammon had an assist and a 2 minute penalty in Cowichan Valley's (BCHL) season opening win. The Capitals play again this afternoon.
