Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Recruit Cory Scammon had an assist and a 2 minute penalty in Cowichan Valley's (BCHL) season opening win. The Capitals play again this afternoon.
This is the BCHL Showcase. Not sure if it's part of the regular season. This would be a really early start to a season, if so...

I thought some of these leagues started this early.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Just looked at the "active players" roster for the Jr. Monarchs and Shea isn't listed. Still no idea where he's playing this season.

Preseason tourneys and stuff like that mostly.

But it does appear that the OJHL has started. USHL starts at the end of this month, EJHL starts this week. Wow, OK then I apologize, I hadn't realized they start so early myself.

It looks like the BCHL Showcase is considered part of the regular season.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

September is a crucial recruiting month with various showcases throughout North America. As a staff of three we will cover showcases in Chilliwack (British Columbia), Edmonton (Alberta), Humboldt (Saskatchewan), Ottawa (Ontario), Blaine (Minnesota), Sioux City (Iowa) and Marlborough (Massachusetts). All of these showcases last around three days with the games starting at 9AM and usually ending at 10PM. You got it….all day in a freezing cold rink after flying six hours to Vancouver and then driving ninety minutes to Chilliwack.

The NAHL Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota starts today.

For scouting purposes, the event is a can't-miss for every NCAA program and NHL team as they get their first look at some of the best and brightest hockey talent North America has to offer. “The NAHL has done an unbelievable job at streamlining what a Showcase should be,” said Colorado College Assistant Coach Joe Bonnett. “When you talk to college coaches across the country and do comparisons, there is no other event like this. It is an incredible way to start the recruiting season because you get a look at all the players from five different leagues.”

Don't always get this kind of detail, so thanks to Mike for this...

Mike McMahon ‏@MikeMcMahonET
Lowell commit Tyler Sifferlen also talked to UConn, Northeastern and Merrimack but UML was the first to offer. Offer came on Wed.

Some additional information on Sifferlen from ESPN blog.

"Visiting ULowell an attending their camp, I really liked it and they have a good criminal justice program since that's what I want to do," Sifferlen said. "And Coach [Norm] Bazin has done a really good job with the program and I would like to be a part of it."

It sounds like he will be back at MC for his Jr year.
He also dispelled rumors that he would transfer for Cushing and will lace them up with the Lancers for his junior year.

Another busy week for the UML staff. The 2012 USHL Fall Classic begins tomorrow and runs through Saturday. Also, this weekend the Boston Junior Bruins Shootout takes place in Marlboro, Mass.

Dylan Shapiro is participating in the USHL Showcase for the Indiana Ice. He's also listed on the EJHL Rochester squad, but at least he's played for Indiana. Not sure if he's on the final roster, since I don't think that's out yet.

Monty, It looks like Shapiro has played in 2 of the 4 pre season games to date. The Ice play again tomorrow with the regular season starting next Friday. The Ice also traded for a forward / goal scorer (Austin Ortega) this week. Hopefully Dylan can stick with the USHL team.

Casey Shea was in the lineup this moring for the NH Jr Monarchs. The Monarchs play again tonight at the Jr Bruins shootout.

just curious....I see that Zac Rondeau is a goalie for NH Jr Mon., is he a brother of former Yale goalie Ryan Rondeau?
