Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Dmitry Sinitsyn was just taken with the 2nd pick of the 7th round (183rd overall) by the Dallas Stars.

when did they start the draft? Somehow I missed even being aware of it this season... either way... great and promising showing by us. I didn't know our goalie was that highly regarded.

Round 1 was last night. Rounds 2-7 were this morning. I believe it was shown live on the NHL channel.

I read on the Jets forum that Hellebuyck wasn't even in the top 35 of the NHL central scouting N.A. goaltender list. If true, and the Jets are prescient, UML deserves major props for finding this guy. Now where the beck is Melchiori?? :)

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Short article on recruit Corey Scammon who will be playing for the Cowichan Valley Capitals (BCHL) this season.

Cushing coach Rob Gagnon is quoted as describing Scammon as “very elusive and deceptive, with great escapability. He’s the best first passer I’ve had at Cushing, and he’s a point-producing D.”

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

This thread has been depressingly quiet with no UML recruiting news for a long time.

Still trying to figure out where Casey Shea will wind up next season.

Monty, at this time, is Norm recruiting for '13-'14 or '14-'15? Not real sure of the timetable on when he begins for each season.

He might be looking for a player 13/14, and paying attention to the 14/15 class.

We've only got three seniors on the roster this upcoming season, and already have 4 commitments. But we've got 9 juniors currently set to graduate in 14, so it would be nice to see some commitments for that class soon.

Official release from the school on the incoming freshmen: http://goriverhawks.com/news/2012/7/30/MICE_0730120354.aspx
One thing I found interesting in this...

The River Hawks return 18 players from one of the strongest seasons in program history as UMass Lowell went 24-13-1 overall, earning its first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 1996.

So there's someone else that's gone from my list of players below...

Defense (10):
Senior: Malcolm Lyles
Juniors: Daniel Furlong, Joe Houk (RS), Chad Ruhwedel
Sophomores: William Eiserman, Zach Kamrass, Jake Suter
Freshmen: Greg Amlong, Christian Folin, Dmitri Sinitsyn (RS)

Forwards (17):
Seniors: Riley Wetmore, Colin Wright
Juniors: Derek Arnold, Josh Holmstrom, Derek McCoy, Joe Pendanza, Shayne Thompson
Sophomores: Tyler Brickler, Stephen Buco, Terrence Wallin, Scott Wilson
Freshmen: Adam Chapie, Mike Colantone, Michael Fallon, Logan Johston, Ryan McGrath, Alec White

Goalies (3):
Juniors: Doug Carr
Sophomores: Brian Robbins
Freshman: Connor Hellebuyck

So at this point, that leaves us at 30 on the roster. That's still a large number.

Assuming no one leaves, the class breakdown for 2012 then would be:
Seniors: 3
Juniors: 9
Sophomores: 8
Freshmen: 10

I'm pretty sure that Brickler left after the season.

Thanks!

You were correct.

Fixed...

Defense (10):
Senior: Malcolm Lyles
Juniors: Daniel Furlong, Joe Houk (RS), Chad Ruhwedel
Sophomores: William Eiserman, Zach Kamrass, Jake Suter
Freshmen: Greg Amlong, Christian Folin, Dmitri Sinitsyn (RS)

Juniors: Derek Arnold, Josh Holmstrom, Derek McCoy, Joe Pendanza, Shayne Thompson
Sophomores: Stephen Buco, Terrence Wallin, Scott Wilson
Freshmen: Adam Chapie, Mike Colantone, Michael Fallon, Logan Johston, Ryan McGrath, Alec White

Also interesting to note, of the new players (including Sinitsyn), 7 players are 6' and taller. They do have Houk listed as a FR, which is incorrect.

I found no local players interesting.

What you talkin' 'bout? There are six guys from eastern Mass. and one from N. Providence. Without guys like Carr and Pendenza, this would be a very different team.
Ah ... combining the two, now it makes sense.

They do have Casey Shea (Woburn) coming in next year, who's local. But yeah, this is probably the first time in a long time that we've had a sizable class without one Mass kid.
