To counter your burnout argument the kids at these types prep usually have to particiate in a different sport/activity each term. They cannot be one-sported like lot of the hockey players are these days.

I didn't say they didn't participate in other things. I didn't say every kid burned out. I have observed the burn out in some kids. It is sad because they have been groomed since an early age with the focus being hockey. For some kids that might be ok but I repeat it is a heck of a gamble to have a kid so focused on something that is a crap shoot to excel in when so many of the variables are not controllable. This is only my opinion. There are obviously many, many parents who do not agree and who invest an awful lot- both personally and financially in their belief.

With the ongoing conversation, just figured I'd pass along that the third '97 has now committed, all three are to HE schools. Freshman Casey Fitzgerald, brother of Ryan (entering BC in '13), will be joining his brother. The other '97s are Noah Hanifin (also BC) and Cam Askew (NU). Hanifin (#1), Askew (#2) and Fitzgerald (#4) are rated as some of the top freshmen by USHR.

Results for UML recruits over the weekend...
BCHL
Penticton continues to win every game they play, and Logan Johnston had a 1-1-2 in each of their wins. Michael Colantone was held scoreless in two games this weekend, his Prince George team winning one and losing one.

USHL
Cedar Rapids was shutout on Friday night, with both Greg Amlong and Ryan McGrath being a -1. On Saturday night, Amlong had a goal and was even, while McGrath was a -2 in their 6-5 shootout loss.

For Chicago, Michael Fallon had two assists on Friday night in a 5-4 shootout win. He also had two assists on Saturday night in a 5-2 win.

J.T. Stenglein was scoreless in Youngstown's 3-2 win on Friday night.

EJHL
Dylan Shapiro was scoreless in Rochester's 5-3 loss on Friday night, but had two assists in a 6-1 win on Saturday, and added an assist on Sunday in a 4-3 win.

NAHL
New Mexico's Adam Chapie was scoreless in a 3-2 loss to Topeka on Friday night, but did add an assist in a 5-1 loss on Saturday.

Odessa's Connor Hellebuyck made 31 saves on Friday night in a 3-2 loss, but followed it up with 17 saves in a 6-1 win on Saturday, followed up by a third period only showing in Odessa's 7-2 loss on Sunday, coming in with his team down 4-1, making 11 saves on 14 shots in the period.

Corey Scammon had a goal and four assists over the weekend for Cushing. Corey now has 23 points (3-20-23) in 20 games.

Haven't had a lot of time to catch up on how the recruits have been playing, but will try this now...

Adam Chapie's New Mexico squad (NAHL) faced future teammate Connor Hellebuyck (Odessa) for a three game stretch this past weekend. Chapie had a 4-1-5 in the three games, as New Mexico won two of the three games. He's also been named to the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament. Chapie is currently 9th in the league in points and 4th in goals. Hellebuyck made 35 saves on 39 shots in Odessa's only win (a 5-4 shootout win), and made 31 saves on 34 shots in the other game he played in.

In the BCHL, Logan Johnston had no points on Friday night in Penticton's 10-1 win, while Michael Colantone had an assist in Prince George's 4-1 win. Johnston did have two assists in Penticton's 7-5 win Saturday night, their 32nd straight win. Yes ... they're won 32 straight. Colantone had another helper on Saturday night as well, as his team won 4-2.

In the EJHL, Dylan Shapiro had an assist on Friday night in a 5-1 loss for Rochester, and had no points on Saturday in a 2-1 loss.

In the USHL, J.T. Stenglein moved up to 8th in the league in goals after his 1-1-2 weekend in two games played. For Cedar Rapids, Greg Amlong had no points in two games, while Ryan McGrath had a 1-1-2 the second night. For Chicago, Michael Fallon was shutout in all three games over the weekend, as his team also lost all three games.

Doesn't appear that Casey Shea's Woburn High team will have a shot at the Super 8 this year, as they suffered a tough loss to Milton last night. With one game to play, it seems like Woburn will be on the outside, looking in this year.

Recruit Corey Scammon finished the regular season with 30 points (3-27-30) in 29 games. Cushing finished the regular season at 18-9-3.

Woburn didn't make it.

The MIAA has seeded teams for the Mass High School Super 8 Tournament. They are as follows:

1. Malden Catholic (15-1-4)
2. St. Mary’s (18-1-3)
3. St. John’s Prep (13-5-2)
4. Hingham (16-4-2)
5. BC High (10-5-5)
6. Springfield Cathedral (10-6-6)
7. Burlington (14-1-6)
8. Needham (16-4-1)
9. St. John’s--Shrewsbury (15-4-3)
10. Central Catholic (12-3-5)

Play-in games are tomorrow (Mon. 2/27) night at Merrimack College. #8 Needham will play #9 St. John’s-Shrewsbury at 5:45 pm followed by #7 Burlington vs. #10 Central Catholic at 8:15 pm.

Catching up on yet another weekend's worth of play for UML recruits:

USHL
On Friday night, Ryan McGrath had a 1-1-2 and was a +3 in Cedar Rapids 8-1 win, while Greg Amlong had a +5 with an assist. On Saturday, Cedar Rapids won once again 6-4, and while Amlong was even with no points, McGrath was the #1 star with a 2-1-3. Michael Fallon had a goal for Chicago in this loss.

J.T. Stenglein had no points on Friday night in a 4-3 OTL for Youngstown, but followed that up with two goals on Saturday night in a 5-2 win, also getting the #1 star. Stenglein (a '93) is tied for fifth in goals in the USHL currently.

BCHL
On Friday night, Michael Colantone had a goal in Prince George's 4-1 win. He followed that up on Saturday with a 2-1-3 in yet another 4-1 win for the Spruce Kings, earning himself the #1 star.

Penticton's win streak going into the playoffs is now 37 games. :eek: Logan Johnston had no points in a 2-1 OT win on Saturday, and had a goal on Sunday as Penticton beat Colantone's squad 4-1. No points for Colantone in this matchup.

NAHL

#1 Salisbury defeated #8 Cushing yesterday 6-0 in the prep school playoffs. I believe that ends the season for recruit Corey Scammon and Cushing.

Well for one year at least, Lowell appears to be going the (old) Merrimack route of recruiting ... 21-year old (already) Christian Folin will be joining the program next year. My feeling, based on nothing, is he'll be a walk-on.

Currently playing for the Austin Bruins in the NAHL, Folin has a 11-18-29 in 49 games, with an amazing +40. He's got a 4-5-9 on the power play and a 2-1-3 shorthanded. Both 2/1/91, he's 6'3, 215 pounds from Gothenburg, Sweden.

Edit to add: According to this, he did receive a partial scholarship, so he's not a walk-on.

Another Defenseman, I believe that will make 11 for next season based on the current roster and Amlong and Folin coming in. I assume Scammon will play a year of Jr. It doesn't seem like the Hawks have many spots open for 2012 & 2013 with their current roster and recruits. I would like to see a few more younger recruits.

Hopefully a deep run this year and something similar next will start the recruiting train.

I think it's 10, and I can definitely see Scammon coming in in '13.

Let's take a look, shall we? :) BTW, I can see Mihailovich moving on from the program as he's barely played anyway.

So at this point, that leaves us at 32 on the roster. That's just a huge number. I stated this the other day, but I can see Boulanger also leaving. I'm not basing this on anything but that there's no point in having 4 goalies on your roster.

Assuming no one leaves, the class breakdown for 2012 then would be:
Seniors: 3
Juniors: 9
Sophomores: 10
Freshmen: 10

Looking forward one more year, just to see if there's potential holes on the roster ... 2013/2014 roster right now looks like:

Defense (10):

I think you'll see some guys leave, guys who didn't get much PT this year...Also, does anyone know where Chris Eiserman ended up or where he is now?

Edit: He's playing in Nanaimo of BCHL.
