Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Interesting to note that the Maksymum Junior Hockey team (Rochester, NY) for the 09/10 season (which finished 5th in the 10 team Western Conference of the Empire League) now has three of their top ten scorers that season committed to DI programs. All '93 DOBs, leading Scorer Riley Bourbonnais is going to RPI. Second leading scorer was J.T. Stenglein to Lowell, and the tenth was Shaprio.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Goalies (4):
Juniors: Marc Boulanger, Doug Carr
Sophomores: Bobby Robins
Freshman: Connor Hellebuyck

I think you mean Brian Robbins. Bobby's eligibility was used up a long time ago. He is doing a decent job for the P-Bruins right now. He's 1-1-2 in 6 games with 43 PIM.

Yeah that... :)

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Recruit Corey Scammon had an assist tonight in Cushing's 4-2 loss to Tabor. Scammon now has 16 points (1-15-16) in 15 games.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

From the Herald this morning...
In Middlesex League action, Casey Shea had three assists and Danny Holland two goals as Woburn (6-1-1) rallied from a two-goal deficit to squeak past Winchester, 3-2

Also in the NAHL, Connor Hellebuyck made 34 saves on 35 shots and was named the 3rd star as his Odessa team lost 2-1 in a shootout. He also saved 3 out of 5 in the shootout.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

As was mentioned on the UML thread, the Russian that we've heard about is now on campus. He's 17 years old, so he's definitely a youngster. Don't know anything else about him yet.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

From the Lowell Sun: LOWELL -- He's only a high school freshman, but Dracut's John MacLeod already knows where he's going to college.

The rising hockey star, just 15 years old, visited the University of Michigan, and received interest from other schools, but last night he committed to Boston University, according to the United States Hockey Report.

MacLeod, listed at 6-foot-2, 165 pounds, is a freshman at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, N.H. Kimball Union is one of the top prep school hockey programs in New England.

In 16 games this winter, the physical defender has collected nine assists.

He attended Cardigan Mountain School last year.

Another freshman from the area, Chelmsford's Jack Eichel, is also generating plenty of interest from college powerhouses. Eichel plays for the Boston Junior Bruins.

Eichel, who attends Chelmsford High, has not selected a college. He is considered one of the top young forwards in the United States.

Not really. The kid was shopped out a few yrs ago if you read the article. Another kid with no childhood and committing way before they should. He played baseball with lil when they were younger. Mr. remembers him as a behemoth.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Can't wait for this kid to get his sticks:
It took only two practices for UML goaltender Doug Carr to announce that Sinitsyn already as the best shot on the team. Sinitsyn said Carr hasn't seen anything yet.

"I didn't get my sticks yet, so I have to use somebody else's. They're too wimpy," he said. "The part of hockey I care about most is my shot. I can't shoot now, and it frustrates me."

Nice job Monty.

From USHR, Scammon has 17 points (2-15-17) in 17 games played. Cushing is currently 12-4-2 and is ranked 10th in the latest USHR Prep Poll.

"Shopped out" a little harsh don't you think? "No childhood" if you haven't had any expericence with junior boarding schools you shouldn't be making judgements. Many boys(even shockingly non-hockey playing ones) list the experience as one of the greatest of their lives. Just an FYI.

Detect some bitterness

That would be incorrect. Have been around DI college hockey for ~25 yrs. Seen the kids that are burned out as they hit college. Seen more than a few who missed out on a lot of what normal kids would have because the parents are in hot pursuit of the elite team or scholarship. Have also seen kids at this kids age doing the same. If the kid goes one place and stays there great stuff. Changing schools every year isn't optimal whether it is for Academics or Sport. Looked like that is what this kid is doing. Big gamble if your kid gets hurt or decides to pack it in and they've had a fragmented school experience to further something that may never come to fruition.

I thought this kid came from Cardigan Mountain School. If so, CMS is a junior school, you graduate and move on to high school just like the kids in public school. To counter your burnout argument the kids at these types prep usually have to particiate in a different sport/activity each term. They cannot be one-sported like lot of the hockey players are these days.
