UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

At least one BC player is still in the hunt for a national championship..

That makes zero sense, he's a former BC player & if you want to consider former BC players look around the NHL at players playing for the cup.

Please I'm begging you, don't start with this again. I really appreciate the insight you've brought us on Lyles and some other recruits (you nailed Rayner last year) ... we just don't need the constant arguments here anymore with the BC fans.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Here is a video on Malcolm Lyles when he was first star of the game.

If you want to see an example of what they are talking about skill wise, watch the 1 minute mark and after. Nice rush, nice ast after that as well as a very good goal.

You will see why the NHL guys are all over him.

Chris Eiserman is the #24 goalie in the North American Goalies category for the NHL's Final Central Scouting Rankings. He moved up from 34.

That's pretty cool. It will be a great time to come into the program for the '12-'13 season. He'll be able to compete with and learn from a (hopefully much improved) junior tandem of Carr and Boulanger for a couple years and has the potential to have two years as the #1. Now if only there was a coach.....:)

Now that you got me thinking about goalies, I wonder what the new coach is going to do next season with four goalies on the roster.

I would tend to doubt we'll have four on the roster. I don't know if Massie's going to get much playing time next year either, unless he just blows away the new coaching staff.
Hopefully soon so the program can get moving and start recruiting for 2012 and on.
I'm hoping to hear something soon. There are currently 5 juniors in the program that will be graduating after next season. We currently have 2 commits (if Scammon stays on and comes in '12) ... so the new staff is already way behind the ball.

Speaking of recruits, Heisenberg is now showing Robbie Baillargeon (Cushing) has committed to BU for 2013.

I saw that ... don't think we were ever involved. I saw somewhere else that he chose from Maine, BU, UNH and NU.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

The USHL playoffs begin this week. Muskegon will take on Team USA in the first round best of three series starting Friday. Mike Conderman finished the regular season with 32 points (11-21-32) and 76 PIM in 57 games. Micki Mihailovich played in 54 games putting up 13 points (1-12-13) with 264 PIM, which led the league. Mihailovich will need to do a better job staying out of the box next season.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

Malcolm Lyles and his Vernon Vipers will be playing the Spruce Grove Saints (AJHL) in the Doyle Cup, starting Friday night. The winner of this series will have the chance to compete for the national title.

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

BTW, I just saw this ... I'm sure it's to help cut down costs, but this is a weird way to schedule. From the Vipers fan blog:

Below is the Schedule: (depending on the outcome of the first 2 games of the series)

SWEEP FIRST TWO GAMES:

Game 1 April 15, Spruce Grove @ Vernon
Game 2 April 16, Spruce Grove @ Vernon
Game 3 April 19, Vernon @ Spruce Grove
Game 4 April 20, Vernon @ Spruce Grove
Game 5 April 22, Vernon @ Spruce Grove
Game 6 April 23, Vernon @ Spruce Grove
Game 7 April 24, Vernon @ Spruce Grove

SPLIT FIRST TWO GAMES:

Game 1 April 15, Spruce Grove @ Vernon
Game 2 April 16, Spruce Grove @ Vernon
Game 3 April 17, Spruce Grove @ Vernon
Game 4 April 20, Vernon @ Spruce Grove
Game 5 April 21, Vernon @ Spruce Grove
Game 6 April 23, Vernon @ Spruce Grove
Game 7 April 24, Vernon @ Spruce Grove

Re: UML Recruiting, Building for the future

I can't imagine its scheduling... if you're vernon why not take the momentum with 3 at home? why agree to 5 away... going to have to think its in their tournament rules. I believe (if wiki is right) that Vernon won last year... maybe something to do with that?

edit: maybe I could see it if it came down to hotel costs... if Vernon wins two then it makes a shorter series more likely... still odd. I don't get it.

To much money to go back and forth from British Columbia to Alberta. Also, if Vernon wins they will stay as Doyle cup is in Alberta
ajhl does not have an over age limit either with 10 players born in 1990. vernon is very young, should be interesting to see how it pans out. no one ever expected vernon to win and remember, they lost 15 players off last years team. their head coach mark ferner is one of the best in all of junior hockey
