UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

Tyler Brickler seems to have found himself a home at Westside, scoring his team's second goal and being named the third star last night as they won 3-0.

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

Speaking of Rayner, it looks like he is still out the lineup for Lincoln.
Finally found some info on Rayner, it was from the day after Thanksgiving in the Journal Star.
Defenseman Will Rayner and forward Andrew Ammon will come off the 45-day injured reserve next week, but neither will probably be ready to play again for at least a few weeks.

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

With Carr's commitment, Lowell has two players that play for two of the best teams in the CJHL coming in next season.

Shayne Thompson's Braves won their 18th straight game yesterday, and will go for a league record on Wednesday. It was also Thompson's first game back since his injury.

Carr is the second best goalie in the CJHL, with a 25-4-1 record, a 2.38 GAA and a 92.2% save rate.

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

I've always felt that winning breeds winning, and Lowell currently has commitments from players on a couple of teams in the CJHL Top 20 rankings.

10. (7) Cornwall Colts (CJHL)
17. (17) Westside Warriors (BCHL)

Honorable mention Brockville Braves (CJHL)

That might be true but that is a very average league.

6 total kids on central scouting and zero listed as A players.

The EJ which is not close to a top league, has 19 players on Central Scouting and USHL has their own top 25 list put out from Central Scouting.

Not digging the league but the play there is no better then the AJ, whcih they and the NAHL have more kids listed then the CJHL

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

Strength of a league is not determined by NHL Central Scouting's assessment of the draft-eligible players. Many of these younger players are being assesed on their potential more than their performance. Many of these young draft-eligible players are not yet impact players in the league. The strength of the league is determined by how good the older players are. There are some very good teams in the CJHL. Same calibre as the Atlantic League? Ha ha.

Re: UML Recruiting 2010 and beyond

Just curious, is there ever any discussion by the fans or team over the "senior heavy" team UML has every 4 years? It seems like it will/is difficult to sustain a consistent level of play when every 4 years they will struggle with a freshman laden team, get a bit better as they become sophmores and then basically hope things work out that "senior" year. Have they ever tried to try to get the classes more balanced?

yes this is the primary and pretty much only discussion when it comes to recruiting. it appears that this will be nearly sorted out by the time the current freshmen are seniors, but one never knows since we've said that before too. it is also dependent upon who leaves early etc etc etc

Well that would be good, it must get tough trying to find 10-12 quality recruits when they need it that particular year. I'm sure the transition to 4 balanced classes has to be done slowly. Anyway good luck the rest of the year.

Funny, but I dont think I remember Edwards, Schaus, Campbell, Falite, Valaroni ever being on the Central Scoutnig List, they must not be very good players?????

We also got Hutton from the freakin' SIJHL. Central Scouting and the top tier leagues aren't the only ways to find talented players who can contribute at the NCAA D1 level.

frankly there are so many leagues and teams out there... some of the canadian junior leagues have like 40 teams under their visage... some lower scouted players may go beneath the radar... or they might need a couple of years and some muscle to break through.

Then there's always the phenomenon of teams having a ton of good mid-level guys... sorta like the missouri valley conference in basketball... nobody's going to be a top 10 taem but there might be a half dozen top 40-50 teams.

Old, young, unknown, doesnt matter. It is a weak league and is rated such. A league is judged by its high end younger players. USHL for example is loaded with young talent and would still be far superior play wise to all of the Junior leagues in N America outside Western, O and the Q.

Older might make for relative good parity but does not make it a stronger league

Of course there are good players from every league, we are talking about league depth, not special situations based upon a kids familiy location etc.

Falite was a Junior Bruin from the EJ, coached by his brother in law
