UML Offseason Begins

Re: UML Offseason Begins

Yep. Now a lawyer. Not too shabby in the academics either.

If you don't already know Rolson, Henry, Bazin, etc were in my class at Lowell and even though I only hand a handful of classes with each of them they were always there and performed well.

I'm really excited for the upcoming season. Can't be worse than last year!

They were really strict about academic performance then but all those guys were really smart about what they needed to do to be successful after they were done playing.

Still waiting for the Vermont games and three non-league games.
Does anybody know who the 3 NC opponents will be?

I've been told that 2 of the NC games will be on a road trip against a team we have played in recent years (both at home and away), but can't divulge more than that.

Re: UML Offseason Begins

These look like pretty good hires... yes?
We'll see how it works, I like that they both have recruiting backgrounds and that one is used to recruiting to a program that is a small school, DI only in hockey, etc.

Re: UML Offseason Begins

Pure speculation on my part, but we will most likely play @ Vermont or possibly a single NC game either to open the season before the Mankato trip, @ UVM on Sunday, 10/30, or @UVM on the Sunday after the exhibition game. The single game would almost have to be on a Sunday afternoon to be compliant with HE travel rules based on the current tentative schedule and there is not much room left on the schedule.

Thanksgiving weekend, the first two weekends of January, and the first weekend in February are the open weekends left. We can assume that UVM and the two non-conference games will be two of the four weekends taken. I believe (aka not sure) that the NCAA still requires an in-season bye for all teams for one weekend during the season which may be the weekend of the exhibition game if that is a Thursday.

Alright... arcane scheduling question time...

Does the game against the Russian team count as a game against national team competition? Is that rule US specific? If it is then does that mean that we can't schedule the usual Canadian club exhibition? Does this possibly mean we can't find a final non-conf opponent and the Russian exhibition is going to count to our total?

The national team exemption is specific to national teams sanctioned by USA Hockey (i.e. USA U-18, USA U-17, USA Juniors U-20, USA Olympic Team actually has its own separate category from that). Your Russia game counts as an international exhibition game, the same exemption as if you were to play a Canadian school.

From USHR: Former coach Blaise MacDonald to UMA??

Look for UMass assistant coach Red Gendron to take the open spot at Yale. He and Keith Allain have crossed paths working for USA Hockey – as well as in the pro game -- over the years. As for UMass, we keep hearing Blaise MacDonald will be coming on board as an assistant. Makes sense. He and Toot Cahoon share a BU connection. At any rate, if MacDonald does indeed go to UMass, the Minutemen will have three guys – Cahoon, MacDonald, and Len Quesnelle -- who have been NCAA Div. I head coaches

Any idea on when we might get the finalized schedule? It seems like Lowell is always last to announce..

Thanksgiving weekend is booked for a Disney show (see Tsongas Center web site) and the first weekend in January is booked for a figure skating show (as they always are). That should help eliminate some of the possibilities.
