UML Offseason Begins

Re: UML Offseason Begins

Heard all the names. Wouldn't agree with the ranking.

would love to see Bennett get it.
has a pipeline for talent second to none. Coaches would line up to push kids his way

PC Quinn or Leehman
UML Bennett(who will be gone for PC gets around to decision) or Rolston
NU Cavanaugh
Penn State Dennehy
Cronin, AHL

Re: UML Offseason Begins

After looking at the PC thread, it seems as though Bennett is less and less of a candidate down in RI. Maybe it's because he's leaning towards a program with a nicer arena, new scoreboard, and a renewed committment to hockey? May be wishful thinking.

Haven't heard too much about Rolston.

It's too bad that there are two Hockey East teams in rebuilding phases with coaching vacancies at the same time. Although they both have different strengths and weaknesses, some names have been popping up in chatter on both sides.

Good week for baseball. Ripped St. A's apart 12-2 and 13-3 to improve to 22-3 (9-1).

No new info or anything. Basically a bump....

Re: UML Offseason Begins

Was looking at the D2 baseball stuff... as good as we're doing apparently Southern CT has like a 20-1 record... if the talents match the records the northeast could have a decent D2 CWS performance one way or another.

Actually #5 (nationally in the NCBWA rankings) SCSU is 24-1 (9-1 in the NE10). Lowell is tied for first in the NE10 with them, with a 22-3 record, while #18 Franklin Pierce is 0.5 games back with a 9-2 league record, and 23-6 overall.

SCSU was a game away from the DII World Series last year apparently, so they're not a surprise. Lowell is currently 26th nationally in the same poll (as of March 29th).

In the Collegiate Baseball rankings (as of 4/4), Lowell is 23rd nationally, Franklin Pierce 13 and SCSU 6th.

Lowell doesn't play Franklin Pierce till the end of the month (at FPC on the 26th and home on the 28th) and ends the season with their only two games against SCSU with a doubleheader on the road. Lowell playes 8 games from this Saturday to the next (7 of them at home), starting with a doubleheader tomorrow against Adelphi (7-3 in NE10, 17-8-1 overall). Adelphi is 4th in the NE10, so the first real test for the River Hawks in league play.

I'm sure the key questions most are wondering is that was this on his own or is this a hint on what may or may not happen to the NU program by the NCAA?

I know there's been some speculation on here about Cronin leaving too. Time will tell.

People close to the coaching staff are assured that Cronin is staying, and they've trustworthy sources. Reid just took the money, Newton did the same thing last year. Reid was supposed to be a 3rd round draft pick in 2008, and was supposed to start at Northeastern in the 08-09 season. Considering how long it took him to come here it's hard to blame him for wanting to take an opportunity to move up.

Re: UML Offseason Begins

They haven't really come out with any news. Hopefully they're close.
According to the Providence Journal, PC AD Bob Driscoll hopes to have a coach named by the middle of next week. Leaman, Cavanaugh and Quinn are mentioned as the PC candidates.

Driscoll, who was in Minnesota over the weekend in his role as chairman of the NCAA Ice Hockey Championship Committee, would say only that he hopes to have a new coach in place no later than the middle of next week.

Leaman says he isn't interested.

From the Warrior Rink Rat: Penguins sign BC’s Samuelsson
The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed second-round draft choice (2009) Philip Samuelson to an entry-level contract. The Boston College junior to be will forego his final two years of eligibility.

Re: UML Offseason Begins

For the season ticket holders who replied to the survey what did you think of the email yesterday from Scott and Eric?

My biggest beef last season was people walking down the aisle during play. I sit in the last row and relayed my concerns but it seemed like there was a different usher/security person every game.

They are going to open up the Talon Club for everyone but season ticket holders will be able to enter 30 minutes before the general public. Interesting move but there is no way the school can compete with the Beer Works.

so, opening the rink 90 minutes before the game? That's pushing it. Unless you know people are really going to be there I don't see the point... or the point to boost people into a higher membership group?

edit: the beer works was the best thing they ever did after the Brewery (or whatever they want to call it now) went all screwy... if the university wants to play 2-ton gorilla on the area then they're not doing anybody any favors.

For people who want to beat the traffic and have kids (no beerworks for them) then it isn't a bad idea. I would have brought lil' when he was younger to simplify things.

Re: UML Offseason Begins

UML Baseball ended a three game losing streak in style with a 6-1 win and a 10-0 no hitter (7 innings) sweep over St. Mike's. Sophomore Vinny DiPierro threw the first no-hitter for UML since May 1, 1999. Lowell improves to 24-6.

I agree, but it's an option for some folks. My only concern with ordering food in the Talon room this past season was the service time, which they also addressed in the email.

Did all season ticket holders have access to the Talon room? I had access but it was because of the Center Ice club. Other than a couple of times when they had a function going on before the game the amount of people in Talon room was pretty small.

I think it's a good idea to open the room up to more people, same with the Center Ice club. It's nice to get the big donors but it would be better to make it affordable for families to join like most Friends groups. The more involvement the better.
