UML Offseason 2015: It's not rebuilding anymore

Re: UML Offseason 2015: It's not rebuilding anymore

I get her emails and never got that one. Ah well. And in other news we need an underground black market feed for a real radio station. They renewed the shi77y station from last yr. As time goes on I feel more and more divorced from anything I can't be at. Too irritating.

It will be interesting to see how the Hawks look against a very good UNB squad. UNB defeated BC 5-2 tonight and the Portland Pirates (AHL) 5-3 on Thursday. The Varsity Reds are currently 5-0 in preseason play. They may have some tired legs playing their third game in four days.

they've always been very tough... I'm more worried about that Portland Pirates result. I know that's training camp but you're still talking AHL/ECHL level players and given the nature of enrollment in CIAU/CIS (whatever) those players are free to move onto AHL/ECHL if it fits within their life desires (noting some of them ARE former pro players)

UNB took advantage of a rookie goalie, Birdsall, in the second period to score their 5 goal comeback. They couldn't beat Demko in the first period with far more shots on net.

The V-Reds will be a bit banged up. Their top defenceman, Jordan Murray, didn't play last night. Fatigue will probably be a bigger factor; third game in four days, bus travel (which is not a bed), and you are playing a well-rested opponent. There's a reason CIS teams seldom do as well in the second game of their "American weekends".

Not polished, but we didn't collapse either... Campbell's penalty... didn't see it on the feed but dear god... if you're upset with yourself that's what the boards are for. Don't double down on stupid.

Work starts now, naturally. I hope they improve over the week. I'm not worried about them per se but you can certainly see its the beginning of the season.

Well, compared to last year when I very clearly wanted to put a bad over my head....

The New Brunswick team is the real deal. Probably one of the better exhibition games I can remember. Usually they are hack and chop games with less skill. Some of those guys are pretty GD impressive

I know Norm feels differently but I prefer a soft opponent, as a fan. The reason being is I like the idea of the exhibition as a welcome back to hockey where you get to see your guys do well. I am not disagreeing with Norm as such... I'd just like to have one guaranteed game where we punch in 8-9 goals. I perfectly understand that the players are best served against the best competition they can manage.

This was a great game to watch. Pretty much everyone showed well, goalies included. Lottsa pretty plays. If it is a lousy opponent I start to feel bad for them. I don't get pleasure when it feels like there should be a mercy rule

I want the exact opposite. I want a tough game against a good opponent. You gain nothing in a game where you score 8 or 9. Whereas in a tough game, you learn how to battle to the end, and that you need to put in a 60-minute effort every night. You're going to have a lot more games like today in the regular season as opposed to blowouts.

I agree from a strategic perspective. I just feel the blowout version is more fun :p

I agree 100%. Lowell got more out of the grind on Sunday than they would have got pumping 9 pass St. Francis Xavier or Dalhousie. Once they got their legs under them I though they looked good. Some missed connections and some missed opportunities, but that will settle down as the season progresses. A very solid start to the season.

Re: UML Offseason 2015: It's not rebuilding anymore

Going back to 98/99, Lowell is 12-1-3 in exhibition games. There were two years they didn't play one.

The breakdown:

New Brunswick 2-0-1
Ottawa 1-1-0
Acadia 2-0-0
Concordia 1-0-0
StFX 4-0-0
St. Thomas 1-0-1
Toronto 1-0-0
McGill 0-0-1
