UML Offseason 2015: It's not rebuilding anymore

Re: UML Offseason 2015: It's not rebuilding anymore

Remember the times before the selection process and PWR was well known and were subjective. My memory might be warped but I think they revamped to make it more objective after UML and a few others were passed over/sent to far away places in favor of the anointed teams with bigger names and fan bases. This was moons ago but I still remember the up-roar. At the time I was a lot less knowledgeable (cue up comments on my current knowledge status) but I remember it being a controversy that was discussed at the coaches' meeting in FLA that yr.

Pretty much spot on. The system/process is as fair as it probably ever has been and this Sun blog post was pretty embarrassing coming from the local paper's sports editor when it looked more like it should belong on the "my team was screwed" thread elsewhere on this board. What a lack of comprehension and most Lowell fans I see responding as well as talk to that have read it are also embarrassed. Even though there's disappointment at not being in the NCAAs this year, there is a general level of understanding of how it works on the part of Lowell fans and they realize why Lowell isn't in it. It's all in the team's hands, win and you're in whether it was Saturday or earlier in the season when some of those ties could've been wins or whatever.

I believe that was the year Lowell was sent out west instead of UNH.

Hit the Sun today. If you are ignorant it sounds to be a great argument. It is embarrassing they are still publishing unvetted, inflammatory stuff making it sound like Meehan is saying stuff he is not. Just another embarrassing example of how the Scum is like a tabloid and not a newspaper.

Re: UML Offseason 2015: It's not rebuilding anymore

And today the horrible, embarrassing blog piece was expanded to an equally horrible and embarrassing front page Sun article. Makes us look like a bunch of buffoons when 99% of us, while disappointed, understand and respect how the process works. All UML had to do was, gasp, maybe not lose to Amherst, Connecticut, or Penn State or turn a few more of those ties into wins and they would've been in the tournament.

This guy's UML and HE press credentials should be revoked.

Everyone I talked to in the area today believes this article as fact! I tried explaining how the selection system works but they didn't want to listen to me!!!

And the tool's last name is a variation of mine. Fantabulous. Will have to remember to send him and his editor a nice letter later.

Yet the old subjective system of deciding who goes or not was totally unfair and this system is in place as a direct result of inequities from the past (like Lowell being screwed in the past from either not going or in seeding placement). Crazy.

Doesn't matter as a two-bit frustrated sports editor with no sway will have no effect, just the masses who read it believe it to be true and look like idiots regurgitating it. Makes us all look bad.

Re: UML Offseason 2015: It's not rebuilding anymore

It's good to see that you folks understand why Lowell didn't make the dance. That stretch from Jan. 10 -Feb. 14 did Lowell in (3-7-1).

The writer needs to understand winning against teams ranked 30th and higher are a lot different than wins against teams in the top 20, and especially so against the top 10. In that Jan-Feb (3-7-1) span, Lowell had wins against Maine, MC & UMass (pwr rankings over 30). Four losses against BU (2) and PC (2) (and also had a big OOC loss to Harvard). I'm going to guess if you guys could have split with BU and/or PC you probably would be in the dance. The writer also mentioned 2 wins against #31 ND... no help. Do that against ranked teams.

In contrast, BC did not have a great season but a good enough season to qualify for the dance. The Eagles had a split or better record with every Hockey East team (except Lowell, 0-1-1), and split with tourney teams #5 Denver @ Denver and #9 Harvard, as well as OCC wins against Michigan, Mich State, Brown, Dartmouth and RIT. Lowell's 0-5-0 record against BU, PC and Harvard was the killer (a 2-3-0 record there probably gets you in).

So there ya go... educate your man. But it probably won't matter, as long as his ignorance is selling papers.

Hey... you guys had a heck of a season and I, among many, never thought you'd be anywhere close to an NCAA tourney bid or competing for the HE Title with the personnel losses you had after last season. Tells a lot about the program, the coaching staff and the players. Lowell is here to stay and isn't going down without a fight. Kudos to UML on a very good season.

This article is stupid but nothing compared to some of the other stuff he has done. This guy specializes in inflammatory articles with patently false info. He is the guy who wrote about the teacher in our town being screwed (with all sorts of 'details' ) only the guy had gone round the bend and has made the TV news looking like a loon. The paper published an editorial with the correct facts in it but never published a retraction. He also published a series of articles about the education in our town that contained a bunch of stuff he had to know was wrong. He misquoted people, quoted people saying things they didn't say and probably was a main reason we didn't end up funding our school system. Has more than once committed character assassination for politicos when the people are getting too close to the truth and making politicos look bad. Has no conscience. Belongs at the National Enquirer.

Congrats to Suts- he deserves it. Body on the line every game. The stat missing- blocked shots. I swear he has more of those than the goalies.

He also set the school record for most games played by a defenseman - 153. Old record was 148 by Nick Schaus.

I loved the way Nick Schaus played. He hit everyone in sight.

Kudos to Suter. Did everyone see his tweet:

Thank you to everyone who made the past four years the best of my life. I wouldn't trade the friends and memories I have for anything.

I was over on the 2015/16 schedule thread and going through it, Lowell needs to expand its competetion. I have yet to see Michigan Tech, Northern Michigan, LSSU, SCSU, Bowling Green, UNO come to Lowell. Any teams in the midwest you would like to see come to the Tsongas?

Re: UML Offseason 2015: It's not rebuilding anymore

So ... who are Lowell fans thinking win the whole thing this year? Does Eichel finish off his perfect season?
