UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

I wrote an article (as did others) on why outdoor hockey is getting too prevalent and absurd…the only thing I can say is at least both teams had to deal with the same poor conditions. As Joe Bertagna said during his media availability (something along lines of) "at least both games were sort of one sided so it doesn't feel like one bad bounce directly impacted outcome of game."

but.... if everyone else plays Maine in optimal conditions and BU plays in horrible ones how is that even? Not that BU is on fire, but the outcome might not have been the same inside an arena. One of the dumber things I heard was Toot saying something about in the NHL you have to play in adverse conditions so this was good training. Not too many rinks have pouring rain and little wakes and splashes if the puck is passed. THe likelihood this 'learning experience' will be useful in the long run is fairly low. :p

Maine beat BU 7-0 in 'optimal conditions,' I understand your point though. With all the OOC games available now it shouldn't have been conference games being played.

Any advice getting tix for Friday? Can we walk up and get them? I looked online but they're like $25 each which is more than I would rather pay.

Get there early (5pm?), get your tickets and then head to Beer Works. Trying to get tickets near game time might make you miss a chunk of the first period.

Yea, wasn't meaning to imply the result would be different but BU didn't need any more adversity than they had the first time. :D

Nothing less than four points is acceptable this weekend. 'Hawks are on a 3 game slide in league play. Maine on Friday (who hasn't played well on the road) and BU on Saturday (who hasn't played well, period).

Lowell's struggle to score goals is becoming increasingly problematic, especially considering the defense hasn't been stellar either. It's time for Lowell's best players to act like it. They need goals from Scott Wilson and they need Conor Hellebuyck to start the overwhelming majority of games down the stretch. If he's healthy, there's simply no logical reason to play Doug Carr. You have one of top three players at their position in the country, and yet we're still going through with this ridiculous rotation.

wow, a controversy in Lowell. I thought it was the good ship lolly pop over here. Carr probably is the starter for all but maybe 15 teams i'm guessing

Let's not get crazy! 2 game HE "slide" and before that we swept ND. We're good but we're not going to win them all. We should get 4 points this weekend but the season is far from over. The competition between goaltenders is making them both better imo. Untill one falters or gets rediculously hot the rotation will work just fine. I do agree it's time for Wilson (Holmstrom too) to get their noses dirty in front of the net.

UMass just lost to AIC 3-2 at home. They outshot them 59-18, including 27-2 in the 2nd period (both AIC shots in that period went in).

Lowell's men's basketball team made it 3 straight tonight, beating the team that was #3 in the AE's preseason poll, Albany at home.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

"Doug Carr, Sr, Massachusetts-Lowell 10 7-2-1 19 254 .930 1.8774"

Those don't seem like bad numbers to me? Is Carr really the problem? I don't think so.
The Riverhawks lost Saturday because they never showed up.

The offense has been a problem. They have scored just 17 goals in 7 HE games. Last year they had a 3.0 GPG, this year is just 2.42. Considering two of their three losses in HE play were by two goals (with an additional EN in each), that missing offense is biting them in the *** right now.

I know we've played fewer HE games, but there's not one Lowell player in the Top 26 of HE scoring. Not one player has averaged a point per game this year, albeit there's only 8 in HE that have done so.

Of the 17 league goals scored, only seven have been at even strength. Seven ES goals in seven games. Not good.
