UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

IMO the great dynasties in hockey are not as sure as before. So many of the storied programs are built on a coach having been there for > decade. These guys have to retire sometime. Jackie is what made BU a perennial threat. He was a great coach, had cache and was a proven commodity. Recruits didn't think twice when they considered BU. It was a great choice. It takes a long time to build that type of credibility. Unless something really drastic happens I think BU is going to be struggling for awhile. The proven commodity part is gone. Even in the last few yrs it seemed as if the glow had worn off a bit. The coach who came in wasn't a long time part of the system that just slid into the role after yrs of being 2nd in command even tho he was connected before. Growing pains will be there for awhile.

As to Lowell being a flash in the pan- everyone is entitled to their opinion. Personally I think things seem to be more even in D I than they used to be. A long way to go before everyone is the same caliber but more challenges consistantly to the 'big boys' then I remember 30 yrs ago.

BU won national titles before Parker and have all the things in place to continue to do well. Great facility, great location, decent education (not that any of the BU kids seem to care about it except Andy Glass), beanpot tournament is still a good sell, and Quinn is still a good coaching prospect as you've seen with recent recruiting. Not to mention that the success breeds success and tradition is top notch there. BU will not be going anywhere just as BC won't be going anywhere when York retires.

NOt saying they won't be good. Just don't see it being solved in a year. Jackie had a very long tenure. It will take time to establish a new regime. Just my opinion. Not a knock to BU.

Q and Yale are absolute flashes in the pan, but they also play in an easier conference. Lowell will never out recruit the power brokers in HE. They will be good with the occasional really good year but they will never gain the consistency that BU (or especially BC) will have due to their recruiting. It's great to see the dogs have their day (UML, even friggin Yale) but they will eventually fall back.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

Lowell moves from 10th to 8th in the rankings.

Man, this weekend will be huge!

Again, everyone has their opinion. Time is the only way to see how things will fall.

Union is pretty good in the ECAC also. Isn't the Hockey East like 19-18 against ECAC this year?

CHRR- chuckling. Can't rep you but will say the absence of clear thought in another party is never a reason to be distressed :D

HE is 21-19-8 against ECAC, 70-39-15 overall against non-HE teams. With 2 teams in the FF, a National Champ and a record like that you won't catch me calling it the E"Z"AC.

Jackie is what made BU a perennial threat.

That and the new concession stands at Agganis, am I right. ;)

it's nice to see the old order challenged, whether it be the non-Big Four in Hockey East or the conference formerly know as the EZAC (featuring Darmoth, Brom, Ylae, RIP, #26 Union, Clogate, Pricetom, SLU(T)... )

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

Just a flash in the pan here. Nothing to see. Move on :p

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

BU is BU. They will be a perennial top 10 team again soon. Lowell is enjoying a short period of success but they will never be a team that is a constant national threat like BU is.

Enjoy the basement

Best of luck to him. I think with all the incoming talent next year this might be playing a big role in his decision.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

Good luck to Steve, he's a good kid and should be a nice boost for a good D3 team in UMass Boston. I don't think he had been happy with his role on the team for a while and being a healthy scratch this past weekend just made the decision easier. Also, with classes starting Tuesday there was somewhat of a "deadline" for his choice.

Also, just for the recruit thread, Nick Gordon is most likely being forced to retire due to injuries. He will still be around the team in a coaching capacity.

If Wilson leaves, which seems probable, that would leave 1 senior forward next year and only 9 from the current roster.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

Weird... I'd think. 14 of 23 isn't terrible playing time

It was more along the lines of no reasoning ever given to him on why he was pulled in and out of the lineup. He has talent and showed it, but then the next game he is in the stands. I think frustration was the biggest part. His family talked with me last season about a possible transfer, a few schools including DI schools were options. He opted to play this season in DIII, closer to Providence.

I wouldn't say Wilson leaving is a done deal. He hasn't put up the numbers he did his first two years at Lowell.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if either Folin or Wilson stayed. In regards to Wilson, unless the Penguins see that he's not developing here, or they really need him, they might let him finish.
