UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

Couldn't agree with Bob any more, that was a very painful game to watch.

Two things that had to happen for this bus to turn around; someone on the defense has to step up and be the on-ice leader. The overall defense has been rather poor; the lack of overall speed, poor decision making, and simply getting beat to puck. I understand that losing a player like Ruhwedel was going to take a substantial hit on the defensive numbers. At the same time, this has been a complete and utter meltdown: 8/12 on PK and especially 1/20 on the PP are just abysmal numbers against teams like Sacred Heart, UMass, and Qunnipiac. Where all three games are in the Tsongas Arena it's completely unacceptable for a team of their caliber. Wilson on the point during the PP is not the answer, in fact, it's actually contributing to the problem. We need someone on the point that is not afraid of letting it go and doesn't appear to have lead weights in his skates.

Secondly, the forwards (save Pendeza and Gambardella) really haven't shown me much at all this season. Too much of "Harlem Globetrotters on Ice" trying for the ESPN Top 10 play or razzle-dazzle showtime instead of going to the net and more importantly, getting to rebounds. Once again, it's appears like another slow start for some of more talented upperclassmen, where the pressure of expectations is in their minds. The Ferris Bueller quote is appropriate: Team is wound up so tight...take some coal and in two weeks you have a diamond to clean it up a bit.

I realize it's early, but this is a must-win for the River Hawks tonight. Can't afford to go down 1-3 to start the season and then embark on a trip to Michigan. Hopefully, they can answer the call.

Do we not remember last season? There are no must wins in October.

My attitude after all these years is "talk to me in March". That said I agree with the rest of what John said. Lots of silly plays- passing without looking, keeping the puck when it should have been dished, dishing it in a panic when there is time. The Frosh folks- I am OK with that. A few of the upper classmen make me insane. I could rant on for days about all the stuff they teach in Mites. Maybe they should go volunteer at a mite practice so they remember the basics. In the end it will all work out but it is the process is sure a painful thing.

Goal! McGrath.
Radio feed is meh. I have the volume up as loud as it will go. Any other radio station and I would be blowing my speakers. Way too many adds in pregame show and my favorite part was missing- when they talk about an alum :(

Well they're 1-3 heading to Michigan. Overall I thought the team played much better tonight 5 on 5. That being said they are still not generating enough good scoring chances. Things started great as they went to the net and got the early lead but then gave it back on what looked like a goal Doug Carr would like to have back.

The PP is killing this team right now. Tonight was more of the same; it's so bad it's almost comical. They're struggling just getting the puck into the zone. No one is taking charge and it looks like total disorganization. The SHG just topped off a terrible special teams weekend.

It maybe October but it's time for this team to start getting it going.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

PP is at 4%, with one goal in 25 chances - plus they gave up a short handed goal.

PK is at 72%.

Craptacular

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season ... The Target is firmly on

Right now, everything is fine with this team except offense, defense and special teams.

Yuck.

Three games in which they've scored just one goal. Awful, awful so far. Glad I was distracted with the Revs on Saturday night, otherwise I'd be pretty ****ed off.

It's nice to have the old UMLOL back, Monty! So this was basically like the two decent years UMass, UVM, and Merrimack had. Then they went back to being terrible.

When was UMass good?

Anyways, here's the latest edition of fun with statistics...

'05 Lowell's W% = 46%
'06 Lowell's W% = 41%... a small step back
'07 Lowell's W% = 26% ... plummets

'09 Lowell's W% = 52%
'10 Lowell's W% = 44%... a small step back
'11 Lowell's W% = 15%... plummets

'12 Lowell's W% = 63%
'13 Lowell's W% = 59%... a small step back
'14 Lowell's W% = .......................

And all this time everyone thought Lowell's cycle was a result of class size.

I love how everyone is projecting how this season will go based on 4 games.

In other news, looks like Carter Hutton got his first NHL win last night.
Awesome! Well deserved, he's a great guy.

It was unfortunately. I don't think we're going to see this team's win % plummet. We had a bad start last year as well.
