UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

Full credit to ScottK as he did the research on this.

With the tie last night, Lowell clinched a 1st round bye. While there are 4 teams below them that could all catch them, Maine and Providence play each other next weekend, so only one of them can catch Lowell, not both. Therefore, the lowest they could fall is 5th place. They need 2 points to clinch home ice in the 1st round. There are plenty of scenarios where 1 point will do it, but some involve a lot of help and/or a lot of tiebreakers.
And Hockey East actually sent this out two hours ago.
@hockey_east
With Maine and PC playing this weekend, they cannot both pass UML or NU in the standings. @RiverHawkHockey and @GoNUmhockey have 1st-rd byes

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

I've been running through scenarios, and unless I've missed something, Lowell clinches home ice with just 1 point next weekend unless the following happens:

UNH sweeps Merrimack
Maine sweeps Providence
Northeastern splits with BU

This would create a 3-way tie at 3rd between UNH, NU and Lowell, and Lowell loses that tiebreaker. Any other scenario (with Lowell getting just 1 point), and Lowell finishes 4th or better due to tiebreakers. If Lowell splits with Vermont, they will have home ice no matter what happens elsewhere.

All this logic makes my head hurt but the outcome is good :D

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

I know certain UVM and UML posters like to talk a lot of trash amongst each other, so I've started up a separate thread so that this thread doesn't get cross-polluted. So for those that are so inclined, go nuts here.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

Here are some other miscellaneous stats. Total announced attendance of over 7600 largest ever announced attendance for the Tsongas Center for a River Hawk or AHL hockey game, but you all knew that. Actual tickets scanned was over 7000, another Tsongas Center record for a River Hawks game or any AHL game for that matter. Lastly, the River Hawks stopped B.C.'s current win streak at 11 games going back to January.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

I'll add another stat ... also thanks to ScottK.

With last night's tie, Lowell is unbeaten in their last 11 at home (8-0-3), which is the longest streak while playing at the Tsongas. It's tied for the longest unbeaten streak in D1 back in the 93/94 season, the Hawks won 11 straight at the Tully.

I give the Hawks a lot of credit for coming out in that 3rd period and turning the game around. The team could have easily gotten down after that second BC goal.

What a great crowd and atmosphere last night. It took me over a half hour to get out of the garage after the game. i normally park in the UML lot but it was full at 6:15 so I ended up on the 4th floor of the garage.

Did anyone hang around for the celebration for the seniors? How was it?

Huge weekend coming up in Burlington. A lot on the line for both teams.

I was certainly down. It wasn't a very pretty 2nd period.

The Sr thing was OK, sort of. I am short. I couldn't see a thing, even perched on a bar stool :(

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

I took a quick look at the entire Riverhawks players points vs BC's Gaudreau line and I might be off a point or two but the Gaudreau line had scored 156 points going into Saturday's game and UML as a team had scored 146.

Pretty unbelievable numbers I thought and BC really is just a tremendous team that has talent in all aspects of the game.
Obviously offense, but their D surprised me and their goalie is right there with our guys. An NC should definitely be heading to Chestnut Hill as much as it pains me to say it haha.

*Just wanted to make it clear these numbers were for the starting lineups on Saturday. Not the entire roster against the Gaudreau line. Not sure Wilson would have helped all that much anyway this year.

They are averaging more than 1 goal per game over the season more than anyone else in Hockey East. That's sick.

Well nationally they score 4.39 goals a game. UMl is just under 3.
It's just an impressive thing to watch.

I know we have talked about this before, but I heard some scuttlebutt at the Sr. Night Banquet that Christian Folin may leave after this season. That can be scary. Not many D would be left for next season. I know it has been stated before that Folin wants to stay for all four years, but of course no one can keep him here...

This is why I've been worried about the defensemen recruiting on the recruiting thread.

Exactly. Every time I see the recruiting thread is updated I'm hoping to god it's a defenseman.

Was anyone on the boards lucky enough to be one of the 5 STH to go to the coach talk?

Here's my issue with that event - it's a breakfast and chalk talk with the coach, and only five STH were picked to go? Who are the other spots reserved for? This University has a stupid promotion every game of the season, sometimes two a game, and yet when they actually run something that real hockey fans would love to be a part of (discussion with the coach) admission is guarded like it's the Presidential Inauguration. Sure, don't worry about it, Lowell. I may not get to hear the coach talk about X's and O's and recruiting, but at least I got Star Wars Night!! What a joke.

I don't expect it to be the way it was in the MacDonald era, where anybody could show up and 12 of us would, but access this limited is ridiculous and inexcusable.

Re: UML 2013/2014 Season, II ... May I have another?

There was talk in this forum, and by Coach Bazin about how the crowd support at Saturday's game was a factor in the 3rd period of the BC game. I wholeheartedly agree. However, that great crowd support was not there from the minutes leading up to the initial drop of the puck and into the first or second period. I was surprised and even commented to my wife how little "buzz" I expected to see and feel at the beginning of the game. The students did their part to try and get things going with the usual chants. But I was a bit disappointed and think that maybe the outcome would have been different if the energy from the crowd was there from the get go.

Maybe it is a chicken/egg thing. For instance, the crowd went nuts after UML finally got on the board in the 3rd. But I wonder if the crowd was loud and raucous at the beginning, if it would have helped the Riverhawks come out flying.

The Lowell students try, and I felt like the energy was good throughout the first period. Once BC scored, everything just deflated. It's hard to get through to the kids that sometimes the teams needs YOU to get THEM going, it isn't always going to be the other way around.
