UML 2012 Offseason Thread: "If this is a dream, don't wake me!"

Re: UML 2012 Offseason Thread: "If this is a dream, don't wake me!"

Last season NESN picked up a game or two as well. That I remember, I'm surprised after the season UML had in 2011-12 that we didn't get many national games or local games. Interesting.
UVM has more home games on national TV than we do.

WHy is everyone surprised. You'd think we have no practice at this.

Re: UML 2012 Offseason Thread: "If this is a dream, don't wake me!"

If that were true, perhaps there'd be more TV time.

I'm not surprised by the lack of home TV coverage. Knowing all the construction changes that took place this summer, running cables for TV would be a logistical nightmare for NESN. What probably needs to be done now is a whole new internal cabling system for TV events that also ties in with the internal control room for video production.

Wouldn't that be part of the renovation plan? Why do they "need to run cables"... Shouldn't the building be wired up to an extent to plug in and go?

The building has never been wired for external television production. It may have been part of the cuts that were implemented when the building was built. I'm sure it will be in the future at some point, especially if the University wants to really promote the team via television.

You might think that Comcast (which owns NBC and NBC Sports, I believe, and is also the parent company of Global Spectrum, the arena management company) would want to work a deal with the University to make this happen.

Along with Captain Riley Wetmore. Coach Bazin announced that Josh Holmstrom, Chad Ruhwedel and Colin Wright will be wearing the 'A' for the River Hawks this season. http://bit.ly/OoykCo

Good group of young leaders!

I scrolled back a bit but didn't see it mentioned, so I'll mentioned it. - (this is speculation, so take it with a carton of salt)

There were rumors circling on Twitter (complied from MikeMac and Twolinepass) about the Fenway Sports Group bringing back frozen Fenway in 2014...

with Lowell/Merrimack opening for UConn/Notre Dame.

Again, this is just a rumor.

BUT if that were to happen, i.e. an original Hockey East team opening for two johnny-come-latelys (a school 1500 miles away and one whose students don't even know they have a team) so that FSG could tap two large, albeit not for anything hockey related, fanbases for money, I'd sooner immolate like a Tibetian monk than go to that decrepit park and give those ***** jerks a single dollar. They can take their pity, third installment, joke of a game and choke on it till they die.

Just a rumor though. Carry on.

I can picture the conversation over in the HE offices.

Joe Bertagna: "OK everyone. I just got off the phone with University of Hawaii and Alaska Anchorage and we're working hard to get them to join Hockey East. This should add $20 to the tv contract we're going to sign and then once the tv people figure out that no one will watch these games because they still don't understand how to follow a puck on tv, we'll just kick them out of the conference. Anyway, here's another bright idea. We'll do another Frozen Fenway. Let's do Uconn/Notre Dame and UML/Merrimack this time and let's schedule it for a day that the Patriots are playing in the NFL playofs."

Hockey East financial experts: "Joe, that would be a terrible idea. We project attendance to be about 4,645 people and we will take a loss of about $673,234."

Joe Bertagna: "Great, do it then! Just think of all these people that are going to watch this on tv. That's why attendance is going to be so low, everyone will just stay home and watch it! Maybe ESPN will televise this game and pay us a lot of money for the tv rights to this."

Hockey East marketing experts: "Joe, ESPN is going to televise the WSOP and the Westminster Dog Show that night."

Joe Bertagna: "Hmmmm... Well, let's see if NESN will bump another episode of Charlie Moore Mad Fisherman for these games. Think of all the people that hate football that will turn off the NFL playoffs to watch these scintillating matchups!"

Seems like the conversation would be between these two fellows...

Countdown To Faceoff: Sean Hladick

The best of luck to Sean in the future.
Lastly, I wanted to use this space to say goodbye. As some of you may know, I'm leaving the University at the end of this week to pursue a new position with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

Interview with Doug Carr during the HE Media Day. Apparently Doug is on his way out? At least according to Chantel...
