UML 2012 Offseason Thread: "If this is a dream, don't wake me!"

Re: UML 2012 Offseason Thread: "If this is a dream, don't wake me!"

Wow, didn't see that one coming.

You had to assume he was going to get the ax sooner or later. They have been grossly under performing the past few years. Any idea if this will have a trickle down affect with incoming recruits like NU had last year?

No surprise, UConn to join Hockey East for the 2014/2015 season.

I was hoping they would just come in with Notre Dame next season and get it over with. Hopefully this works out for the league and Lowell in the long run.

I'm willing to bet the extra year was to ensure UConn would be in the league with full scholarships. The road map they laid out for the consultants that was reported on indicated it would be a six-per year increase starting this year, which would put UConn at 18 scholarships in 2014-15.

Re: UML 2012 Offseason Thread: "If this is a dream, don't wake me!"

It's been a long time since UML had three drafted players on their roster. :)

Re: UML 2012 Offseason Thread: "If this is a dream, don't wake me!"

Nick DeFelice the little guy who was adopted by the River Hawk hockey team this past season just passed away. from the press release: "He was adopted through Team IMPACT and was an influential member of the program, helping UMass Lowell to its best season in years.

For his courage, energy and support of the team, Nick took home the 2012 Marc Connolly Award, given annually to a non-player who made a significant positive impact on the UMass Lowell hockey program as voted by the players, at this year's banquet. "

At the banquet and the ticket holder thing at the Tsongas he looked pretty good. It doesn't seem possible this could happen so soon. Heartbreaking. Prayers for his family and for the team.

Agreed, terrible news.

That's very sad news.....thoughts and prayers to the DeFelice family.

Per the latest NHL Dev. Camp announcements, congrats to Hellebuyck (WPG), Holmstrom (NYI) and Wallin (PHI)! A couple more in the works

I wish Washington would draft one of our players. Of course the last open development camp thing started at 8AM just so there wouldn't be a massive crowd.

Re: UML 2012 Offseason Thread: "If this is a dream, don't wake me!"

From the Bentley thread. Lowell will be playing at Bentley in 2013-2014.

Among those non-conference games will be the opening game of the year, a renewal of a budding rivalry with UMass-Lowell. The River Hawks were the surprise team of Hockey East a year ago, coming within one win of a trip to the Frozen Four before they lost to Union in the East Regional Final. The game, played at Tsongas Arena on October 13th at 7:05, was supposed to be part of a home-and-home, but instead Bentley will host UML next season in 2013-2014.

So now we finally know...
Scott McLaughlin ‏@smclaughlin9
Commissioner Joe Bertagna said HE will have 20 conference games in 2013-14 when ND joins, then 22 in 2014-15 when UConn joins.
That means A LOT of non-conference games...

Re: UML 2012 Offseason Thread: "If this is a dream, don't wake me!"

Just read about the story that Nick DeFelice, the kid you guys took in from Team Impact, passed away. I send my prayers to their family and to the UML River Hawk family; our teammate introduced through Team Impact, Mike Eden, passed away earlier this summer due to his cancer. I know Bentley is planning a night to honor Mike, his family, and help fight cancer.

Extending my sympathies.

Looking forward to renewing our rivalry with UML this year, should be a blast going to Tsongas, and I hear we're hosting you next year at the JAR.

Re: UML 2012 Offseason Thread: "If this is a dream, don't wake me!"

It's my understanding that the suites on that side of the building are going to be expanded, including a multi-level media suite, sort of on the idea of Northeastern. I think the loss of seats will be minimal as most of the seats lost will be made up inside the suite itself (with the exception of the media suite). This is all subject to change, or course. There were also issues with the dasher boards and these are expected to be redone.

These changes are expected to commence after graduation season.

I received an email today regarding this and the impact to seat location. It looks like they will be taking the top two rows in these sections. Row 16 will now be the top row in section 119. For current season ticket holders in these sections they are hoping to simply slide everyone down two rows if possible. If that doesn't work for some, they can request a new seat location.

So now we finally know...

That means A LOT of non-conference games...

Yes, and I think a bad idea... Even if you end up with a lumpy schedule I would have preferred to taper them off.

Edit: even with this... I'll just say I was glad to a get a glimmer of the later "good old days" of hockey east

Re: UML 2012 Offseason Thread: "If this is a dream, don't wake me!"

Only 20 league games in the 2013-2014 season? That leaves 41% of all the other games being non conference games. That certainly is not enough and will leave a bunch of teams scrambling for good opponents.
