Re: UML 2012 Offseason Thread: "If this is a dream, don't wake me!"
Of course, when expectations rise, the question for Lowell has always been ... how will they respond?
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I'm not thrilled with all the 21 year olds coming in, but for this one season, I can understand it (Bazin coming in late to the 2012 recruiting class). We did need to see some more of a physical presence on the ice, and it appears that we will. IIRC, the Miami fans, prior to the NCAA game, had been mentioning that Lowell's tallest player was the average height of the Miami squad. So I fully see what Coach Bazin is doing, but I hope that he also sees that guys like Vall, Wilson, etc ... not the biggest, but they've got talented. There's a mix that needs to be recruited, and how this Lowell program does in the long term will still come down to the recruits that are brought in (as with any program of course).
It's really tough to be a Lowell fan right now, and think anything but that this team will be good.People have been saying Hockey East "will have a down year" for the last 5 years and H.E. has won the national title in four of them. Ciocco is right, that Lowell will be among the top teams, but I think its foolish to say because Hockey East is "down". Boston College is the best team in Hockey East without a doubt and next year will be no different. Lowell will be right up there and I think is a lock for the Garden and maybe a date with BC in the Hockey East final.
Back to back NCAA appearances seems a lock, too, unless Wilson has a sophomore slump or Carr can't replicate his past year. Always good to see a non-traditional team be strong.
