UML 2012 Offseason Thread: "If this is a dream, don't wake me!"

Re: UML 2012 Offseason Thread: "If this is a dream, don't wake me!"

Well in good news, the second Bentley game isn't happening. Heard today that the Non Conference schedule will consist of: Denver, CC, Clarkson (2), Bentley, Princeton and Harvard. Haven't heard official dates/locations on anything, but those are the NC opponents for the season. I'd imagine Princeton would be coming up here and Lowell would be heading to Harvard, just a guess though.

Clarkson games are at Clarkson. Building is booked that weekend as it usually is.
Well that sucks. So only two non-conference games at home? Bentley and Princeton? We're looking at 15 homes games (13 league, 2 non-conference)?

Re: UML 2012 Offseason Thread: "If this is a dream, don't wake me!"

Any idea when the official schedule will be released?

Is it just me (and I think it probably is here) but does reading these things make people feel like we got everything on Santa's list? Seems too good to be true... tighten up the defense and dangerous will be a kind word.

How much tighter do you want this defense? They gave up less than 2.5 goal/game last season. And now you add in a (hopefully) stud in the commie, and it looks like it got better.

1.8 would be nice... 2.5 is good... But not great... If we want to be great we have to have great... Stupid thing to say, sure. Don't we all. To me we need tighter defense (how many of you don't want to hear "Lyles" ever again?) and stronger bodies on the offense (gym work or recruiting... Either way).

Side note. I have evidence of Monty doing the unthinkable. Just haven't gotten around to uploading it.

1.8? Union led the nation at 1.83 and BC was 2nd at 2.02 this past season. Lowell's 2.47 was ranked 14th. It was also 3rd in Hockey East behind BC and Merrimack (2.24). The defense isn't a problem.

Sigh. First of all I wasn't being literal... Second of all our defense was good but not world beating... Tighten that up and you are going to make life tough for others.

I'm pretty sure you won't hear much of Lyles next year. With Houk and the Russian, you're replacing Corky and Lyles.

Ruwhedel - Suter
Furlong - Kamrass
Houk - Russian

That leaves Eisermann has a good option to rotate in as the 7th D.

As for them working out this offseason, it's all they are talking about (besides being college kids on break) on twitter. They seem to be hitting hit hard. The conditioning is where I hope they spend a lot of time too.

From the article on the recruits, it would appear that Bazin things Folin might play a bit too ...

Re: UML 2012 Offseason Thread: "If this is a dream, don't wake me!"

Some nice comments about Lowell by ex-UNH player Josh Ciocco on the UNH recruits thread.
If you are a UML fan you have alot be to excited about next season. As the Hockey East Analyst I followed every team this year, and in watching lowell the four biggest pieces on their team were Carr, Wilson, Wetmore and Ruhwedel. All of these kids are back. Lowell came a game from the frozen four this season and return their entire core. Norm Bazin did a complete overhaul in terms of the culture in the room and Id be shocked if Lowell does not compete for the league title next season. I do not know a ton about their recruits. They certainly went old and are bringing in quite a few 21 year old freshman (7 to be exact). The next step for Lowell is going to be to build on their momentum and get in the ring with the likes of UNH, Maine and maybe even BU and start competing for some of the top recruits in the area. They have excellent facilities and Lowell is a respectable school. Traditionally Lowell has not been a place where local kids dream of playing--but a couple winning seasons can go a long ways. Norm Bazin is very passionate about Lowell and I believe he can sell that program and begin to start taking a piece of the pie.

When you look at next year I think Lowell will come into the season ranked #2, behind BC only--but they will be older and more experienced than BC---BC lost 3 very good dmen in Dumoulin, Cross and Shea and that is no small challenge to replace them. I think next season will be a down year for Hockey East on the national level and I believe it is as good a chance as ever for Lowell to win the league. Hope this helps.

Re: UML 2012 Offseason Thread: "If this is a dream, don't wake me!"

Very nice indeed. Even before the comments, I always liked Josh more than the chump from Maine.

Re: UML 2012 Offseason Thread: "If this is a dream, don't wake me!"

People have been saying Hockey East "will have a down year" for the last 5 years and H.E. has won the national title in four of them. Ciocco is right, that Lowell will be among the top teams, but I think its foolish to say because Hockey East is "down". Boston College is the best team in Hockey East without a doubt and next year will be no different. Lowell will be right up there and I think is a lock for the Garden and maybe a date with BC in the Hockey East final.

Back to back NCAA appearances seems a lock, too, unless Wilson has a sophomore slump or Carr can't replicate his past year. Always good to see a non-traditional team be strong.
