Umd bulldogs 2010-2011

Re: Umd bulldogs 2010-2011

Need help with a Duluth name - I assumed he was in the media guide, but he wasn't - ?Hogie? short for a longer name.

There was also a female besides Suz Hoppe in the team picture - that name would also be appreciated.

Thanks and congratulations,
-Melissa

Hoagy's real name is Dale Haagenson. I haven't the slightest idea who the other woman is.

Re: Umd bulldogs 2010-2011

I haven't heard anything to the contrary.

What could be fueling rumors is the fact that PSU has their eyes on someone with "UMD ties". I believe many are assuming this to be Sandelin. I have also heard that it is a "former UMD coach with (obviously) UMD ties. That could very well be Steve Rohlik of Ohio State. He is someone who applied for the UNO job but did not get it. I look for him to get a head coaching job somewhere in the future.

To summarize, people could be getting Sandelin mixed with Rohlik.

Sandelin said today he has been contacted about the coaching position for Penn State’s new varsity team and probably will interview for the job sometime this month.

What makes me think he may take the job is this part of the story.

Sandelin’s wife, Wendy, earned a nursing degree from Penn State in 1988.

Re: Umd bulldogs 2010-2011

Congratulations to Justin Fontaine on signing a two year contract with the Minnesota Wild. I don't know if he'll make it in the NHL or not, but every time he came to Denver to play against the Pioneers it certainly was a treat getting to see him play. He was a most productive college hockey player. I wish him good luck in his pursuit of an NHL career.

If Robby Earl can play in the NHL with the Wild. Then Fontaine will.

I hope he can make the NHL and have an impact. I would like to own a Fontaine Wild jersey :D

Genoway will beat him up in Houston next year and your dreams will be dashed.

Re: Umd bulldogs 2010-2011

Not unless Houston plays Abbotsford and Aaron Marvin strikes again!

Don't be ridiculous, Aaron Marvin isn't going to play in the AHL. After a couple years floundering around the ECHL, Marvin will go back to the job he held in Warroad, being TJ Oshie's bag boy.

Think that's a better fix to it.

Re: Umd bulldogs 2010-2011

What kind of depth will UMD have next year? Aside from the usual bottom dwellers i.e. Anchorage, MTU, goofs etc. the WCHA looks to be shaping up as the top league talent-wise next year and I'm curious what tDogs are going to bring to the table. Go.

Well, it looks like we probably aren't going to have the same depth and leadership that we had this year, but that isn't to say that we aren't going to be a decent team.

We did lose Justin Fontaine, Mike Connolly, Justin Faulk, Mike Montgomery, and Kyle Schmidt, but we have Jack Connolly, J.T. Brown, Travis Oleksuk, Mike Seidel, and others who stepped up huge at the end of the season coming back. Not to mention that Kenny Reiter will still be here.

I'm not exactly sure who all is going to be our incoming freshmen next season, but I do know that we have a pretty good goaltender in Matt McNeely coming in.

The season could really go both ways. I mean, we don't even have our coach locked up yet, but we've got some decently experienced players who have felt what it means to win.

To add to that, my player to watch is Joe Basaraba. He made good strides last season and I hope to see more from him next year.

Along these lines, Jake Hendrickson picked up his game immensely towards the end of the season. He's been working hard and it's shown.

Joe is a very good young player. He will continue to develop. UMD is a top hockey program. I enjoyed watching him play this year.
