UMD 2010-11 Season

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

Here's to hoping we see a very, very large crowd on Saturday Night!!

Trying to fill seats at the end of the season doesn't make a lot of sense to me if the idea is for potential new fans to come back. If there aren't any more games to come back and see, why not do this at the beginning of the season? I hope there's a decent crowd this weekend, but they really need to work on their promotions next season.

I agree with you Schmoe. There's a lot of things that could be improved on. But I'm at a point with the athletic department in that I'm gonna take what I can get. So hopefully there's a lot of fans and a lot of noise to send off that very awesome class of seniors and propell the team into the playoffs.

Nothing revealed in the newspaper on Irwin's status for the two games.. other than she just started skating again this week

I'm hopeful it means she practiced and is ready to go . . . but, maybe that's wishful thinking. Coach Miller's tone sounded as up-beat as I've heard it since early in the season. (Of course, what else is she going to say?) I also liked the section on Friddy's adjustment to her new position this season. As Friddy goes, so goes UMD . . .

Soap box moment: I wish the paper would go back to covering the team in person. I know, I know, not the resources . . . blah, blah, blah. However, they still remain the most successful team in town. They deserve better (if not more) coverage from the local press . . . paper, internet and TV. How many times do I have to watch the 10:00 news, wait for sports and then not even get one!! All the while reporting scores of every little boys hockey game in a 100 mile radius! There's that symbiotic relationship - we don't cover it because there's not the fan base; can't get the fan base because it's not covered.

I for one can't wait for the games to start tonight . . . seems like we haven't seen them play for a long, long time!

GO DOGS!!!!!!!

Irwin played well for playing only her 2nd game in 2011 so far. Lana Steck got her 3rd action of the year, playing the 3rd period and stopping 5 shots. It seemed like every shot Winberg took was going to go in tonight

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

St. Cloud could do the honorable thing and forfeit tonight's game. It is Senior Night after all, and this way the Bulldogs seniors and their parents and friends can get together right away without waiting for a game to finish. And St. Cloud can get on the road early and get home before too late.

Probably not.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

UMD takes 2nd place and a playoff series with Mankato instead of Ohio State.. Much rather play Mankato than Ohio State

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

You could feel the 3rd period garbage coming from the first period.. Elam and Perrault had no control regardless of calling 14 penalties the first two periods.

The first goal of Cournoyer's hat trick (ended up with over 800 photos from tonight.. yikes!)

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

And St. Cloud had absolutely no reason at all to play the kind of garbage hockey they brought to Amsoil Arena tonight. Bad officiating aside (briefly), the Huskies had zero riding on the outcome of the game. Poor sportsmanship times ten and that starts at the top.

Perrault gets on my nerves more every time I see him and he outdid himself tonight. What a chump.

A reluctant thank you to North Dakota for handing the Bulldogs second place in the WCHA. My appreciation expires at midnight, so enjoy it for the next five minutes. Starting tomorrow, I don't like North Dakota again.

And for whatever reason, I thought tonight's Senior Night was the best I've seen. Maybe it's the caliber of the players being honored, I don't know, but it was really nice.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

No matter what a person thinks about selling seats for $1 (on campus) or $3 at the door this late in the season.. we had 2226 paid attendance tonight... Kind of hope this might entice UMD to lower the ticket prices for women's hockey games.. $6 would bring in more fans and actually be more money probably, than 500 people at $10-$12 or whatever it is.

That crap where he was tyring to seperate the goon from the headlock she put Wong in sent me to the moon when HE put Wong in a headlock??? Her arms were dangling. She was not fighting. He just escalated the situation. Infuriated. I just deleted about ten more sentences of how I really feel about that gum smacking chump but I'll leave it at that.

Look, I'm not trying to start anything here with this post. Really, I'm not. That said, over the years I've been following my SCSU women's squad I have to say that the UMD series have always seemed to be some of the most poorly officiated and down right dirty by both teams played games I've seen. Both teams have been nasty to each other for some reason, even if SCSU has been one of the have not in the Women's WCHA compared to UMD.

Yes, the pathetic Huskies had "Zero riding" on this game, but do you expect them to just roll over and die for UMD? From the games I've seen over the years UMD and SCSU have not been very kind to each other. I don't expect just because SCSU is in the toilet bowl this season for them to just give up and do nothing.

According to those I talked to that did see the game on Saturday in Duluth this weekend(full disclosure I was ice fishing on Red Lake this weekend and didn't see anything) the Bulldogs were no less guilt of being cheap than the huskies were. Sure the Huskies had little to play for. But that doesn't excuses the cheap hit to the head late in the game by UMD to a SCSU player. The Unsportsmanlike penalty to the SCSU goaltender was poorly handled in my opinion as well as the unsportsmanlike penalty on the SCSU Bench. From what I heard Goose was *****ing about a fallen SCSU player getting hooked and jabbed repeatedly by a UMD player while she was on the ice that was not called witch resulted in the bench minor. I will agree Goose shouldn't have used the language he probably did, but the ****ing officials have a duty to protect the **** players and if what I heard was true(honestly from a pro SCSU source) then the official failed and deserved to be chewed out!

Perrault is the worst official I have ever seen. He is a piece of crap. I've hated him since the farce of a game in the Final Face Off years ago where he constantly made BS after BS call against SCSU while they played UMD at the DECC. He gave UMD a time out without them calling a time out for crying out loud, not to mention BS after BS calls against SCSU in that game. He is a piece of crap that doesn't deserve to do the job he has. Perrault is the biggest pile of crap I've ever seen in a NCAA hockey game.

(This has been a venting rant by a SCSU Women's hockey fan. Please don't hold his passion against him as its been a horrible season to endure to say the least)

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

WCHA fans don't agree on much, but you probably won't get a lot of argument here.

There was one play on Saturday.. I was behind the net shooting through the glass.. someone was pulled down in the corner, he was on the other side of the net.. he skates all the way around the back of the net looking like he really didn't see it happen.. while leaning to the side to watch what was going on. If he were any good he would have moved up to the men's game with Brad Shepherd. Oh wait.. the only reason Brad moved up is that his boss raised him.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

You're welcome here any time, SCSU2039. You're right, there were blows by both teams and there's no sense in saying who was worse, etc etc. It's over now. And Perrault is the not only the worst official ever, he's a peice of crap that creeps on the girls. Watch him. Next time I see him give a butt tap to one of the girls, I might just crawl over the glass and strangle him. He's gross AND he's horrible at his job.

p.s.- check your rep. :)
