UMD 2010-11 Season

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

Friddy seemed to be as good as she ever was.. at least in the second period tonight.. the third period she went screaming hard into the boards when she was tripped and caught herself with her arms.. it seemed to stun her but it didn't seem to keep her laying there like it did last year.. didn't miss a shift and almost got her hat trick in the third ..and nearly got a natural hat trick in under 8 minutes during the 2nd period.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

Finishing up shots from Saturday night, and looking at the box score.. between the two nights paid attendance was in the 2500 range combined.. it SAYS 1104 for Friday night and 1448 on Saturday night, but I'm pretty sure there were more people there Friday night even with the ugly weather, the place looked fuller Friday. Whether they were all paid or what the story is I'm not sure, one section had 4 rows full of Asian (not positive of nationality honestly) students who were likely seeing their first hockey ever, judging from their response to the game.

I have a new respect for SOME of the WCHA officials.. Elam and Thiele are some of the WORST, and laziest referees I've seen the last couple years. They never move to get a better view of the action in front of them, and I notice it mostly because they didn't hinder my shooting from behind the net, and in the corners, like refs usually do.

Friddy was great again Saturday, for a while I was worried she wouldn't get to the 150 career point mark, but she's only 6 points away now. Elin Holmlov will get her 150th career point with 1 point at Mankato next weekend. Irwin's missed 3 of the last 4 games, and is STILL leading the team in goals with 17, Wong has 11, and total points at 37 to Holmlov's 31.

Brienna Gillanders has 6 goals in her freshman season, ALL of them on the powerplay.

It was nice to see Cournoyer and Thibault scoring Saturday along with three other Bulldogs. They need to spread the points around like that. And they need to SHOOT a lot more often, too. They came way too close to closing out the first period with just one shot on the board Saturday.

These last six games will be interesting with just three points seperating the #2, #3 and #4 spots in the league standings and Bemidji just four points behind in the #5 spot. You couldn't pay me to make any predictions. Well okay, I'd do it for cash.

Just curious, why are you still shooting ISO 3200 in the new arena? You can get shutter speeds of 1/800 at ISO 1000 over the glass, and 1/800 at ISO 1250 through the glass and have little to NO noise in your photos. A couple others have even went up to 1/1000 and ISO 1600 but that shutter speed isn't really needed, and 1/640 can be plenty even at ISO 800 depending on the camera. Just curious, not critiquing any photos really. Now, back to hockey and not confusing others with camera specs

The game saving save from Saturday night... Late in the third period, before Thibault's empty net goal, Sadie Lundquist put a backhand upstairs and Jenny managed to stretch across and snag it, just wish I had the puck in the picture

Just playing around with the camera and getting used to the new arena and seeing what I can get away with. It's all just for fun. I don't use the camera much anytime else after hockey season.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

Can anyone say why Tomcikova didn't play against UMD? I haven't had time to keep up much, but don't recall reading anything about her. I'm assuming she must be hurt???

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

Thanks for the info Schmoe!!

I thought the best outcome from the Bemidji series was winning two without Haley. Also and maybe the biggest factor was to see Friddy step up. She seemed to play really well with Willy bringing a good dose of the energy and speed she's been missing most of the season. Perhaps is finally getting used to what she needs to be doing in this offense? I also thought Winberg had an especially good showing followed closely by a few of the sophomores . . . Corny, Thibault, Willy, Jenny . . . . and I continue to just love the way Dodge and Ambroz give 100% all the time.

One more thought, I can't wait to see Brianna Gillanders develop over the next year or two. That girl has so much talent and with her size . . . she could be a great force in the middle for the Dogs.

Any more news on Haley from anyone!!!

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

The efforts from Friddfinnson did not go unrecognized! DPOTW. And it's rumored to be her birthday this week!

I think it's important to recognize that the offensive scoring opportunities for Friddy are lessened given her defensive role. Wong, too. That said, it sure is great to see her do her magic. Love it.

Agreed on Gillanders and playing on the starting line both nights hopefully boosted her confidence. I look forward to seeing Kenyon develop, too. Kenyon seems to give 100% effort on her shifts. Always earning her time on the ice.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

Yea FRIDDY!!!!!! Very deserved. And skate, I agree with her role in the new scheme this season limiting her chances. What I was getting at is that I think there have been more chances for her to take the opportunity to get in on the rush but not until this weekend did I really see her just go with it. That's what I meant by adjusting to the new offense. Joce does it quite a bit as does Wong, but I haven't seen Friddy do it much until this weekend. Once she's at the net she has a great sense of what to do with the puck!!

Also . . .right on about Kenyon. I was just sitting at my desk writing off the top of my head and somehow missed #16 streaking down the middle on yet another scoring opportunity. I love to see her going for it whenever she can. She's got a quick release to her shot and (I think) as she adjusts more to the D-1 game more of them are going to go in. She's also a very exciting player to watch.

GO DOGS!!!!!!

Okay, yeah. I'm getting what you're saying. I hope whatever it was that started to created the moments that clicked travels with them to Mankato. I'm sure it's gotta feel good for Friddy to get that scoring thing "out of the way". (for lack of a better term. I knew the lines were changed up a bit after the break and now with Haley being out of the mix for the last couple games. Anyone see a new mix that they thought was good? I wanted to take note on Sat but just got a little wrapped up in hanging on for the sweep.

I liked seeing Gillanders playing on the top line with Holmlov and Winberg. She's really fun to watch, always at the net, always aggressive and always working. I agree on the others mentioned, too, and for all the same reasons.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

Today's game is an early one (3:07 p.m.) and they did have a video feed yesterday. I didn't catch it until the third period, but it was free. Not the best quality, but the price made it more acceptable.

The link will say "Listen Here," but it is a video feed. I guess the link isn't active until game time.
