UMD 2010-11 Season

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

I agree that tonights game was horribly officiated. I was surprised at J. Lam's overt aggressiveness early on. I think that had she been more in control it could have been a very different game. Not to excuse some of Umd's antics. I did hear Idalski tell her to cool it at one point. I was also surprised that both her and Gillanders weren't tossed. hopefully things are more controlled tomorrow.

Yeah...from the box, it doesn't appear it was as much a single culprit / one team penalty fest as some would always have readers believe. I see Mr. Lick was present. That explains a lot.

Appearances can be deceiving when you only have the stats to go by. Unless you were there and saw all the crap that wasn't called, you only have part of the picture.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

And before I forget, bad officiating and cheap playing aside, Jocelyne Larocque got the fourth goal. She's now tied for the all-time scoring record for defensemen at UMD and should set the new mark during Saturday's game. This after missing 22 games last season. So the Bulldogs close the book on the DECC tomorrow and maybe see a new individual record for one of their top players...cool. :D

Well said sir, there were a lot of missed calls both ways, but people need tho think about this: the referee/linespeople have the toughest job in the arena, and we as fans need to let them do their job the way they know how, I'd like to leave you all with one more thought: what if the zebras just let them fight, get it out of their system and get on with the game?

Four officials on the ice sounds like plenty to me. And I wouldn't want to see them let players fight it out. I wouldn't want to see anybody get hurt regardless of which team they play on.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

Irwin and the 'Twins' were talking the entire night.. given their National Team histories it makes sense.. but Lick and Lund could have kept the game in hand during the scrum at 13:01 of the second period, but didn't call a penalty on any of those involved IN the scrum, just a couple that happened behind the play. Monique Lamoureux came in and gave Wong a shot up high, to which she retaliated, then Sara Dagenais jumped in, which probably wasn't smart with Haley Irwin defending Wong, plus 2 more Sioux players joined in after that. All 4 of the originals (Bulldogs and Sioux) should have gone to the box to at least keep control of the game.

On a good note.. I think Friddy played her best game of the season.. that I've seen anyway. She even used some of the speed she hasn't brought out much this season to try and create scoring chances. The defense put 11 shots on net, 7 of which were Wong and Friddy, who of course are playing out of position this season.

Right...this song and dance is getting real old. I recall during the first series between UMD and UND when someone who was watching commented on cheap shots by Irwin as did the announcers who also characterized her crosscheck, unsportsmanlike and misconduct penalties as uncalled for and unprovoked. You posted that no way...there had to be provocation, even though you hadn't seen it. A week or two later I actually watch the Gopher Bulldog series and refute your all too common "cheap shot" and "chippy" play accusations by a long list of Gophers. Yet somehow for the games I actually watched my repudiations of your "chippy" play characterization were absolutely ridiculous, while your repudiations of actions by Irwin you didn't even see are completely reasonable and beyond reproach. Very creative "logic" there. Your credibility regarding any UMD play / penalty assessment is zero.

Were you at the DECC for the UMD/MN series to see what I saw? Didn't think so. Were you there Friday night to see what I saw? Didn't think so. But just to make sure my comments are credible in the future, I'll disregard anything I see and get in touch with you first so you can tell me what I saw and what I thought about it before I post here.

No need...everyone already knows what you're going to see before it even happens. UMD players will be mugged and victimized by chippy, cheap shot artists on every other WCHA team while all UMD players conform strictly to the rules of fair play, yet still get screwed by the officials while Shannon watches quietly and doesn't bark at the officials on cue trying to bully them into making calls against her opponents.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

You know how in grade 3 an 4 when boys and girls pick on each other and bicker? But it's really because they have crushes on each other but lack the tools to know how to express it or even know what to do about it? Yeah, that's what we've got going on right here folks. A good old' fashion crush. Some tension. Some angst.

(Cue the music....)

Then comes marriage
Then comes a bulldog in a baby carriage.

It's okay Brooky Poo, you can cheer for the 'Dogs if you want to. We won't tell anyone! Your other crushes, The Lam Twins, defected and are still loved. You can too!

I hope you didn't spend a lot of time contemplating and constructing this brilliant, measured response. I'm not a UMD fan so I don't experience an intense, freakish "love" for players and thus participate in a non stop love fest for them, ad nauseam. It's a simple matter of respect due the athletes, including the Lamoureux twins.

Bad idea in my opinion. I can go to a Wild Game if that's what I'm looking for.

I don't want to see anyone get hurt either no one ever wants that, but it's bound to happen sometime with the constantly increasing intensity of the rivalries between Nodak, Bucky badger, gophs and dogs

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

From what i've seen of ND in DTH over the years is that ND, sometimes, will try to knock a better team off their game by hacking away until the better team looses their cool and gets in penality trouble. Didn't work last nite 'cause the 'dogs won, and I think depth had something to do with this but I really don't like these kind of games. The rainbow twins are VERY good hockey players but I would rather watch players like Ambroz step up then skilled players goon it up. Sure Coach Miller will take the time to help an official improve the game. I've seen Frost do the same. Idelski, however, is yapping ALL the time. Very annoying.
