UMD 2010-11 Season

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

While the Bulldogs enjoy some time off during the Four Nations Cup, Finland and Sweden are playing today at 4:30 our time. The game is on Hockey Canada TV for those who need their hockey fix. :D

I'll get my hockey fix with the UMD men playing Tech..and the high school season opening Saturday, also gotta shoot football at noon, come home for hockey at 3 then to the DECC for 7 pm.. rather than pay hockeycanada to watch a game or two :D

Sounds very busy, dhmn.... BUT, I watched last night's USA-Canada match up for free. Not sure if the rest of the series are fee but in case you find yourself editing photos at home...

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

Had to get the Dogs back on the first page!!! Anyone have any news on the team (e.g., How's Tara??)? Thoughts on the OSU matchup? My first impression of them is the same as in years past . . . weak in goal. And, against a team like UMD if there's one spot that needs to be tough, that's it.

I haven't seen Steffes play, but I get the impression that she has upgraded the position. Last year, their primary goalie had a save % below 90%. Steffes is currently at .917, which would translate into about 1.5 or 2 less goals allowed on a weekend in Duluth. Their team D wasn't good enough to hold a lead in Madison, but Bucky looks pretty explosive, if 5 goals a game for their Minneapolis series is any indication.

In any case, I don't expect any 2-1 games between UMD and tOSU.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

Thoughts on OSU? Natalie Spooner still scares me. Otherwise I'm not too worried.
I agree about Spooner, and Laura McIntosh is a very good player, too. Should be interesting series.

Haven't talked to folks at the AD recently, so don't know how Tara is doing.

In other news, the 2010 NCAA Championship rings will be presented to the team this Thursday.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

Should probably mention Hokey Langan in a discussion of dangerous Buckeye talent as well.

Will they be searching patrons for water bottles at the gate I wonder?

Approximately the 10,000th water bottle reference by me.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

All the available water bottles will be at the Ring Ceremony this Thursday night, where I plan to have a photo taken with them and the rings rumored to have 5, I repeat, 5 diamonds. You know, for 5 National Championships. Oh god, I almost forgot. I've asked, no... begged, Shannon to wear the sequin jacket.

Is that all you've got Brooky? You can't argue with 5 trophies so you may as well scratch at the dirt for mud and water bottles and glitter. Well, you look pretty good covered in mud. It looks awfully close to pig's ****.

Rumor is that Tara won't be suiting up for Buckeye action. The more time to heal from a concussion, the better the long term health of her melon. That and it's no secret that OSU historically tends to be more physical in their play so probably, I would assume, that they don't want to risk it. I hope she can be ready for Big Red on turkey day weekend down in Mad Town.

We'll have Haley and Joce back, which bring just as much leadership to the ice as they do skill. Looked like Haley had a hand in most of the goals (assists, that is) for the final 4 Nations Cup game. It'll be great to have her sniping skills back on the ice.

You are one angry individual. Maybe you should have a drink and look into getting some anti anxiety meds.

Spooner, Hockey, and McIntosh are for sure on my radar. The gave UND a run in their series and certain caught Bucky on her heels the first night. Spooner pulled off a hat trick in the 4 Nations this weekend. They definately have some fire power. Worried? Nah- not so much worried as cautious. Boy, the level of play from the WCHA has gone up, up, up (which is awesome on many levels) which just means that every game has got to be a good game. I really hope the weekend goes well to create the momentum heading into a very big game the following weekend. With a long break, I hope the girls are recharged and ready to get at it again.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

That's a very angry comment. ;) So I'd say, yeah really. :)

You're wrong. And you really think too much of yourself if you think I give a horses a** about who you are, what you think, and what you think of me. Go away please, you're adding no value to this thread.

Now-- back to hockey anybody have any additional insight to OSU and the upcoming series? How about our Freshman who really seem to be earning their stripes? (I'd like the troll to go away so help me talk about UMD hockey here!)

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

Mmm... not really. I just think you're a waste of oxygen.
Ah...you mean quality contributions such as the above?

First it was a dumb and disparaging remark regarding Natalie Darwitz, Then the Lams were the target for more of your disrespectful, disparaging and uninformed comments. Then I'm a waste of oxygen. ;) All wonderful contributions to an alleged UMD hockey thread. If it is going to be a habit of yours to publicly insult people you don't even know...which it obviously is, you might be responded to in kind, whether you care about those responses or not. whether you care or want to hear it doesn't matter much to me. If you want me to go away maybe you should shut your hole and stop making stupid, disrespectful comments about non UMD hockey players, and me. otherwise you may continue to read more contributions from me equal to your very own in "value" to the thread.

Re: UMD 2010-11 Season

So anyway..... (scrapes the dog crap off her shoe....)

Good stats primer over on the UMD Women's Hockey page last night: http://www.umdbulldogs.com/teams-womens-hockey.php?id=5381&page=news

This is my take home message, or why I will not consider this series a win unless the 'Dogs show up with their "A" game:

UMD AND OSU AT A GLANCE: While the Bulldogs are currently in second place in the WCHA, the Buckeyes are checking in at seventh. Despite their distance in the standings, however, UMD and OSU are producing similar numbers on the ice. The Bulldogs are averaging 3.90 goals a game, and the Buckeyes are scoring an average of 3.75 goals a game.

The Bulldogs boast the best power-play in the league with a 27.5 success rate, and lead the WCHA with a special team net of +7. OSU is ranked second in the WCHA with a special teams net of +6, but has the league’s third-best power-play with a success rate of 24.1

OSU has the top-two scorers in the conference between Laura McIntosh with 25 points (6g, 19a) and Hokey Langan with 20 points (8g, 12a), but both teams have three players ranked in the top-10 in scoring. Haley Irwin, Elin Holmlov and Jessica Wong have combined for 21 of the Bulldogs’ 39 tallies, while Langan, McIntosh and Spooner have netted 26 of OSU’s 45 goals.

If Kim/Jenny/Lana can stop Mac and Hokey and we can maximize our scoring opps a la Torpedo, stay out of the box and not retaliate against physical play, we'll hopefully come out on top.

One thing Miller always talks about is to play our own game. I think if the Dogs focus on doing just that - executing the Torpedo . . . sharp passing, pushing the puck up the ice whenever they can - solid tending . . . then yes, they should win this series. On the other hand, I remember watching OSU at the WCHA tournament last season and being thankful we didn't have to face them at that time. Langon and Spooner just seemed dominant. It is a new season and all and we have our big guns back - Irwin and Holmlov are better suited to play against them than our smaller team was last season.

Two wins would be huge right now . . . I'm brining 2 new fans to the game tomorrow. I don't get how there could be anything else to do in town . . . a parade???

My thoughts, exactly.

DOH! Completely forgot about the parade. Not sure how that's possible given the song is on television all.of.the.time. Makes me re-think the parking situation. UGH.
