UMass Lowell Offseason Thread '13: In Norm We Trust

Re: UMass Lowell Offseason Thread '13: In Norm We Trust

At the golf tournament today it was announced that Josh Holmstrom will be team captain for the 2013-2014 season. No word on who will be wearing the A's.

anything else interesting?

You know, this coming season... I don't know what to think anymore. Nothing makes sense.

I'm going to get on the horn with Ripley's regarding this. Seriously though, is there anyone who thinks there is a player on this team that deserves the C more than Holmstrom? It's the most obvious choice and it has my approval (goes a long way let me tell you). I am kind of mad at his parents for not having more sons to come through Lowell though.

As for A's, I think you'll see Suter end up with one. One thing I've noticed is Bazin likes to change up the A's as the season progresses, so I don't take too much stock in who has them on their sweater.

I agree. He was the player in most of the pictures meeting Deval Patrick and giving him the Lowell jersey. Wetmore was in the AHL at that point. I figured that he would be the next captain based on that. Can't wait for the season to start.

Didn't know that our field hockey team will be playing on blue turf going forward.

Could be worse..

Ehhh... no sir, I don't like it. Our other field sports play there as well, IIRC. If not, I'd like to know what's going on with our facilities.
Soccer has it's own field.

That doesn't look too bad, actually. I worry ours is going to be bland and basically be smurf turf.

I also don't like how we've forsaken the use of red as a color. I still believe having two primary colors isn't wrong and should be used on the basis of what looks best. As an example, I would never do the background of my conference poster or presentation in red. But shirts... Hell yes. Power color.

When did this happen? Where are they playing?

Edit: ok, satellite image tells the story. I didn't realize they had done that. Where will lax play eventually? Is the soccer field field turf or grass?

Next comment? Why are we going to AstroTurf? I thought that was archaic knee destroying stuff? Why not blue field turf? I hate to think of all the money spent a decade ago to install field turf... I assume the athletic staff knows what they are doing. Only thing I can think of is that field hockey prefers a non-bladed surface so that the ball rolls better. Still, can't help but think this is moving backwards

I may be wrong but I think it may have to do with the requirements for D I field.

Some of the new astroturf is very impressive stuff. I minored in sports management in college and took a class on facilities management which talked about the new synthetic turf, field turf and astroturf and there have been a lot of new developments. Not sure what UML is putting in, but I wouldn't be quick to assume it's knee grinding turf.

Yeah, I treat the boards as a public grousing space, I'm sure I could be quite wrong :)

I saw on Facebook that the adjunct faculty that was running pep band was fired. Apparently the university has an issue with the adjuncts forming a union, she was the president.
