UMass Lowell Offseason Thread '13: In Norm We Trust

Re: UMass Lowell Offseason Thread '13: In Norm We Trust

The UML basketball team will also be at Michigan about two week later. The River Hawks will open the 2013-2014 season -- and play the program's first-ever Division 1 game -- at the University of Michigan on Nov. 8.

looking at michigoon's schedule and I think its safe to say that it will be on some variety of national broadcast. I'm sure that'll be a hockey night, something will have to be arranged locally.

Oh man, if Lowell goes in there and wins, the Maize and Blue will burn that place to the ground and I'll supply the marshmallows.

Let's put it this way ... Lowell basketball has as much chance of winning in Michigan this October, as UNH has of winning the NCAA Tournament. ;)

Re: UMass Lowell Offseason Thread '13: In Norm We Trust

There are 6 current D1 teams that Lowell has never played (as D2 or D1), and 3 of them are now on the schedule for 2013-2014: Notre Dame, Sacred Heart and Penn State.

This leaves only Bemidji State, Robert Morris, and Mercyhurst as the only teams currently playing D1 hockey that Lowell has never faced at any level.

Re: UMass Lowell Offseason Thread '13: In Norm We Trust

how long were they on the team, because I don't even remember those names

Nick Curry played in 16 games (0-2-2) during the 2010-2011 season. I don't believe Will Rayner played a game for Lowell. He was a 2010 recruit that I believe only lasted a couple of months at Lowell. He left to play in the EJHL before ending up at Sacred Heart.

Re: UMass Lowell Offseason Thread '13: In Norm We Trust

Bobby Valentine is Sacred Heart's Athletic Director, right? I remember reading an article about it a while back but don't see his name listed on the staff directory.

As many as 16... Wow... Then again, that season was utterly crud-tacular

Recruits Nick Master and Tyler Sifferlen are participating in the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders Camp which started yesterday and will run through Sunday.

It's always nice to see different teams come to Tsongas.

Based on the schedules already out there, here's the 2013-14 schedule so far:

Fri 10/11/13 Sacred Heart
Sat 10/12/13 UMass
Fri 10/25/13 @Michigan State
Sat 10/26/13 @Michigan
Fri 11/1/13 New Hampshire
Sat 11/2/13 @New Hampshire
Fri 11/8/13 @Northeastern
Sat 11/9/13 Northeastern
Fri 11/22/13 Notre Dame
Sat 11/23/13 Notre Dame
Sat 12/7/13 @Maine
Fri 1/3/14 Clarkson
Sat 1/4/14 Clarkson
Sat 1/11/14 Northeastern (@Fenway)
Friday 1/17/14 Maine
Sat 1/18/14 Boston University
Fri 1/24/14 @Providence
Sat 1/25/14 Providence
Fri 1/31/14 Merrimack
Sat 2/1/14 @Merrimack
Fri 2/7/14 @Boston University
Sat 2/8/14 @UMass
Fri 2/14/14 UMass
Fri 2/21/14 @Boston College
Sat 2/22/14 Boston College
Fri 2/28/14 @Vermont
Sat 3/1/14 @Vermont

That’s 27 out of 34 games. Just gotta fill in the 7 remaining non-conference games (plus an exhibition).

I was told that Lowell will be going to Princeton on a Tuesday, followed by 2 games at Penn State on a Thu/Fri, with Penn State hosting a football game on the Saturday. Looking at their football schedule, there's only one Saturday home game that Lowell doesn't have a hockey game scheduled yet - Sat 11/16 against Purdue. So, expect to see Princeton on Tue 11/12 and Penn State on Thu 11/14 and Fri 11/15. That'll just leave 4 NC games to be scheduled.

Unless I get a car I'm not making the PSU game, I couldn't make Thursday and I would have to stay through at least Sunday.

Edit: wasn't the rumor going that we'd play QU?

Norm said at the lunch today that the team will be playing AIC at home. I didn't think to ask him the date.

Very cool of Norm to come up with the idea to do that with season ticket holders.
