UMass Lowell 2025-2026: Youth will be served

I watched the game on ESPN+ last night. The MC announcers mentioned that the Warriors have three 30-point scorers. All three are underclassmen (2 Fr, 1 So.). I took a look at the MC stats, they currently have six players with at least 20 points (4 So., 2 Fr.). The future appears to be bright for the Warriors.

One of those “freshman” is 23 and last year played in the AHL. He’d be pushing 26 if he stays 4 years. He’s probably gone in 2 weeks.

Nice comeback tonight. With the way we've been at home, plus the way BU's been playing lately, I had low expectations, especially after going down early. We pass UNH in the standings, so we'll play MC for the fourth time this season, at Lawler on Wednesday.

Entertaining game to be at. Chippy at times. Glad to see the Seniors get to leave with a W, as they have to be absolutely disappointed that over their four years, the team went 23-36-7 at home.

With the lack of scoring, and the lack of any future commits that are rocking the points totals in Juniors ... you have to be concerned going forward.

Also, anyone know if Shipley is also injured? He's been a glaring omission recently.

Yesterday was Shipley's first missed game of the season, but worth noting he was the extra skater on Thursday. Not sure if he has played his way down and then out of the lineup?

Gill only has two years of eligibility anyway (including this year), per Mike McMahon

Ah, do you think he’ll stick around? It’s a strange path he’s taking. But then we’re living in strange times. I haven’t forgiven him for that hit on Mikey DeAngelo. Yes he got tossed and suspended one more, but Mikey missed more than that recovering.

We won’t know until Wednesday but it’s looking like The Flagship will host either the Riverhawks or Merrimack next weekend. Bring the cool Riverhawk uniforms, not those hideous Lowell ones if it’s you. Good luck.

I agree that he's probably gone at the end of the season, but if he (and the rest of the MC top guys) stick around, that team could be something to watch in the next year or two. But I also agree that his discipline (or lack thereof) is noticeable. He leads them in penalty minutes and it looks like he's had one game where he took a holding then a boarding, another with an elbowing and a tripping, and yet another with a roughing, then later an embellishment AND another separate unsportsmanlike conduct penalty (abuse of officials maybe?) on the same play. Even in the game against UMass when he didn't get ejected, he had a hitting from behind penalty. The guy can obviously play, though, I believe he has the longest goal streak in the NCAA this year (7 games)

Question for you guys in the off chance you know - did something happen at Tsongas last season to precipitate the bag policy change? Management change? Issue with someone bringing something in they shouldn't have? I meant to ask this back in January when I was refused entry bringing a pocketbook I've brought to every game at Tsongas the last 10 years.

I'm old enought to remember when Merrimack vs Lowell was a fantastic DII rivalry. Coach Riley vs Coach Lawler. Guys from the Merrimack Valley playing for the respective schools (the Bullocks for MC and Dean Jenkins for Lowell, all Billerica guys). Brian Doyle in net for the Chiefs and some great cat calls from the fans ("Merrimack stinks, just like the river!!") The "Fever" chant. Tennis balls being thrown after the 1st goal at Lawler. Boy, that was a fun time!

Changed a couple of seasons ago ... basically as everyone has moved towards a "clear bag" policy at almost all arenas/stadiums.

I remember Dean Jenkins. He couldn’t crack the varsity until his junior year. He used his stick like a machine gun after scoring. His older brother Mark was even better. I think Mark went on to play for Union.

Dean played with Paul Miller senior year. I was a classmate of Dean, freshman year. Billy Hallonborg was in the same class and cracked the varsity as a freshman. Of course he didn’t make it to his senior year. He was a wild kid.

So Paul was a classmate of mine at Austin when I transferred. And then Paul went back to Billerica for his senior year. We called him a traitor after that move.

I never played competitive hockey but I could name drop all day long. My mother worked for the Fusco’s dad in Burlington, other Austin players like Jim Knowlton ( a Burlington kid too) have been all over the place as an AD, including RPI and Cal.

Some of this stuff I only know from alumni chat. I haven’t talked to any of them directly since HS graduation.

Another disappointing season over.

I have a feeling the transfer portal will be kept busy by departures.
Yes, for whatever reason the team never seem to put it together this season.

We'll have to wait and see what happens with the portal. The portal will be open for 15 days, Aprill 13 through April 28.

I'm assuming Bazin will be back. ScottK made a comment here recently saying he isn't going anywhere. Also, despite the lack of wins in recent seasons, the building is still drawing large crowds, although I noticed fewer students coming to the games.

I'm not sure if I will renew my ticket for next season.
