UMass Lowell 2024-2025 Season: Expectations are.....Expectations

Needless to say, big weekend... I don't know what to expect other than to imagine we aren't going to get the mental changes needed in play execution that would indicate a strong team.

Cant even get a solid shot off against a guy who has never played a NCAA game before...
According to box score Lowell attempted 86 shots. They ended up with 34 shots on goal, 32 shots got blocked and 20 missed the net. There were plenty of rebounds available early in the game that they didn't take advantage of.

As I sad a couple of weekends ago, this team plays to their competition. The best game they played is against UConn (which was at the same level as them) and they lost to two teams below them. 2 wins now in their last 9.

One bit of good news, Lowell alum Mark Carlson will set a record tonight for most games coached in the USHL.

is it that they play to their opponents or their opponents play a certain way which leaves room for lowell to play similar. I guess that's the same thing but my thinking is that other teams leave room for us to play into. We react rather than having our own game. Certainly this team doesn't have a type of self-confidence or crispness. They're talented hockey players.

One thing I've noticed is the lack of confident player above the circles that's more apt for the teams in the 12-17 era. Puck movement and scheme confidence... but I dont know the game well enough to know what they're being asked to do.

Maybe they should have played some better opponents to get them ready for America East play. Scheduling 3 D3 teams is crazy
I'm sure this is more to do with money, however meager the box take is, but yes, I agree that 3 D3 opponents is somewhat pointless. My guess is they're measuring that versus say having to travel to St. Bonaventure or something like that.

edit: St. Bonaventure is on the mind since, having no life, I hand-input all of this season's mens lacrosse scores to run a computer model.

There are also some rumors that there are issues within the team that were known at least a month ago and Duquette did nothing about it. He also signed a long term extension in April of 2023, so he's probably not going anywhere soon. I've already noted though that next year could be an utter disaster, with currently less than 5 players on the roster.

Only one game for Lowell this weekend, Saturday at Providence. Lowell won their first game down there 1-0 just a few weeks ago. With UConn off last weekend, Lowell jumped them in the HE standings with their win on Saturday against Northeastern, and moved into 4th. Currently we are 1 point ahead of UConn and Merrimack (MC has played one more game than Lowell and UConn). Merrimack is off this weekend before they have a home/home against PC next weekend (who is currently 2 points behind us). Meanwhile UConn hosts Maine Friday night, so after this weekend, all those three teams will have played 20 HE games and have 4 left. Providence currently is the only team we have left to play that is above us in the Pairwise. All that to say, this is a huge game for us Saturday, with only UMass and UNH left on the schedule after that.
