Whew! UMD closing to 4-3 and Chapie scores to put UML up 5-3 at 7:21 of the third.

Meanwhile, Amherst falls back to earth, losing 6-1 to Yale.

Just what the doctor ordered. 6-3 final against 6th ranked UMD for a weekend split with Lowell going to 4-1-2

Smith with a 4 point night, Gambardella and Chapie with 3 points each, 3 goals from defensemen, and overall, nice to finally see offense clicking.

Was there. It was amazing!
I believe individual ncaa's is allowed, which is why we are allowed to win cc and track
No. They cannot compete in the nationals. This was the conference meet. They went to PreNats a few weeks ago but that is just a meet. THey need to wait 4 yrs after being elevated to D I. Bummer for the kids who would have been All American in D II and missed out being able to compete the last yrs they were here. :(

I'm not sure about that as the UML recap from today notes it's probably Allen's last race of his UML career.
He is out of eligibility after this season. Unless he runs the ICAAAA meet then I think he is done.

WOOOOO! Huge win and a major validation that this team is legit.

Happy Halloween. We scored goals hooray!!!

My understanding has been our individuals (t&f) could compete nationally, field hockey was eligible this year, everyone else in 2 years

On top of that there were more than one pre-nationals... And the one they did didn't have the marquee programs.

----

Let's look at it for what it is... The coach got good runners to come in and do well... Build a culture... Success is hard as its a good dose advertisement but culture will drive progress.... It's just the further along you get the harder it is.

Winning a non-niche D1 sport is muy difficult.

I'm not unhappy with the way things have gone so far and I think it's clear this group needs to be polished up and they will be... Barring sluuumps we'll have more tension hockey this March.

Other than preferring that one of those ties against Merrimack was a win and given the offensive woes, I'll take 4-1-2 and ranked 7th in poll at this point. Hopefully the offense has righted the ship after tonight and it's on to 2-4-1 Vermont to get some HE points.

Some day someone is going to have to try and explain to me why a D2 program has to wait an ungodly amount of time before they can compete in D1 postseason after moving up, but a D1 team that moves down can compete in the D2 postseason right away. It's ridiculous.

Agreed. If I recall correctly, a few years ago UML was in the NCAA DII field hockey tournament and got slapped around by a team that had been DI the previous season. Seems like if you move up, you should be able to immediately compete and if you move down, that's when you should have to wait.

Another example is Stephen Buco. He left DI UML mid-season, transferring to DIII UMass-Boston and was able to play immediately. Just something odd about it.

The notion is that you shouldn't be playing the jumping game if you just happen to have a strong program in a particular year. Also note that many more enter than exit and the only real requirement is total sport sponsorship. If it were more across the board matters then many of the HBCUs would have long dropped to D-II and D-III.

---

Also note that football, m/w basketball, and m hockey are the only ones that demand a sit out year for individual players transferring to a D1 school. All the other sports are free and immediate transfers. Often good players for those other sports do get poached.

Re: UMass Lowell 2015-2016 Season Thread

Great effort by the team tonight to earn the split. That's a tough team to go on the road and beat.

It was good to hear the offense get back on track. Boyle is giving them good goaltending right now, it'd be a shame to waste the effort. Boyle is currently 7th in the country with a .949 SV%, but that's including the four Ivy League goalies ahead of him who have only played 1-2 games to date.

On to Vermont. The Catamounts are 2-4-1 on the season, but faced a really tough first couple of weeks with Omaha and North Dakota visiting Burlington. The Cats are winless at home to this point, going 2-0 on the road but 0-4-1 at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Should be an interesting weekend.

They could apply to do that but as far as I know they do not have a wavier yet. XC you have to compete as a team in Regionals to make nationals. Not like individual sports. The 2 Prenat meets were different.

On top of that there were more than one pre-nationals... And the one they did didn't have the marquee programs.

The top teams split between the 2 meets. He is getting some nice recruits in. It will take awhile but it is coming along!

It is all about the $$$. D I teams get a piece of the pie when they compete- ie when we went to the FF or Regionals the other teams got $$, we didn't because we weren't all D I. It is a way to prevent teams from entering D I and collecting cash to do so.
