Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

A couple of interesting Hockey East games on tv tonight.

- BU @ Merrimack - 7:00 pm - (WBIN & FCSA)
- BC @ UNH - 8:00 pm - (NBCSN)

BU will be a good test for Merrimack. The Warriors are currently 7-1 at home.
BC and UNH are both on losing streaks. BC has lost their last two games and UNH has lost three in a row.

Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

After the meltdown the 'hawks had on Wednesday night - I was curious how the team typically fared through each period. I calculated the Goal Differential (Goals Scored less Goals Allowed) by period. For UML, the first and 3rd periods are identical with a differential of +8. The second period has a dropoff to +2. The good news is that UML does not have any "negative" periods. The only other teams that do not have any "negative" periods is Vermont and Merrimack.

I made a bar chart and one interesting thing really jumps out: BU's goal differential in period 1 is -3, the second period is a little better at -1, then in the third period it is off the charts with a +23. Its like they are sleeping at the beginning of games, start to wake up by the second period, then in the third period they play out of their minds.

I will try and share the chart if anyone is interested.

===== EDIT ======
Here is the chart... I hope it works:

That was not a "meltdown". That was taking your foot off the gas and getting lazy. This is what a meltdown looks like: http://www.uscho.com/box/mens-hockey/2003/12/14/niagara-vs-umass-lowell/
I remember that game...wow it's hard to believe it's been 11 years. That one was tough to watch. After going up 5-0 the whole team just seemed to shut it down and then couldn't turn it back on. Niagara just kept coming and everything just ended up in the net.

Yes, the reason I never got to do the "it's all your fault" chant. I was ready to go for our #6... Which never happened.

First rule of sports. If you can do it in 30 minutes then so can they. That game was just embarrassing.

Chiming in- I remember that one too. I think Blaise ended up putting his coat over his head if I remember correctly. I wished I had a bag for my head

Went to the Cross COuntry/Track and Field Kick Off banquet last night. Great job the way they put it on. >200 people - 60 alums showed up and Tom Chameras (died tragically some yrs ago) family just gifted an endowment for a scholarship for the team- 125K! w00t!

Can't say enough about the team and coaches.

Sure would be sweet to see UML play a complete game tonight, give Maine a nice thumping and head into the break undefeated in first place in HE.

Anyone know when the doors are opening?

According to radio a 3rd jersey is on its way... not red... I'd love to see what a red diagonal shirt would look like... not this lifetime.
