Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

Pretty fired up about the contest tonight. I expect some intensity and clean battle throughout from both sides. As usual I'm a little bit more than concerned about the kid with the pads between the pipes and his skill/efforts directly influencing a W/L.

The Hawks need to bring their "A" game tonight. Speaking of goaltending, Harvard goaltender Steve Michalek is playing very well and is currently ranked third in GAA and first in SV% in the country. The Crimson are also ranked number two in power play and penalty kill.

Have seen the Crimson 3 times this season. Every team must bring their A game against them. Pretty darn good team at Harvard this year.
Very similar style as Lowell. You all will probably enjoy a good battle and a great game tonight.

Really looking forward to tonight! Hopefully UML can steal Harvard's trick against BU and neutralize their top line. Like BU, looks like Harvard has one kickass line and then it drops off dramatically. 53 of their 85 points have been tallied by only 4 guys. If Lowell can leverage their depth by grinding it out with Harvard's top line and get points 5-5 from the middle of the roster I like our chances. In Norm I trust to outsmart the Ivy Leaguers - hopefully UML will bring the required intensity and Boyle will swallow up a few rebounds!

You guys plan on showing up and playing tonight? It would be good for HE teams in the pairwise if you won...

Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

You want more bad news? Our first line didn't score and we still won. So much for UML's depth. Although I did think that in the first period, UML was better five on five.

Except for CJ Smith not a single Lowell player showed up tonight. An embarrassing, pathetic performance by the team.

Two straight home games where this team has played like drizzling crap. What a wasted opportunity.

No.

Another egg laid. Hawks. Nests. We keep going and we will have a nest full of eggs.

Lowell was beaten by a better team tonight. No excuses and no eggs either.

Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

Not disparaging the other team. They were very good and never stopped coming. Our team just looked like it had periods of narcolepsy and couldn't get out of their own way as time went on. Toward the end it looked like the keystone cops when they got possession.

Still rather horrified and particularly upset about last night's performance. I'll choose to believe a trend isn't developing.

I don't think so. Your team is very good and well coached. Give credit where credit is due. Harvard played well and got stronger as the game went along. We beat BU and BC in their buildings. We are for real and now people know it. I think UML will be there at the end of the season. Your first line outplayed our first line if it's any consolation. CJ Smith is outstanding.

Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

I know I mentioned this earlier, but no Z.Kamrass last night. We played 3 freshman defensemen, and paired two of them together (Panico and Forney). Statistically they didn't look bad, but anyone who watched saw they struggled mightily getting the puck out of the zone. Credit to Harvard, they played a great game, that was probably the best game I have seen this year.

Lowell just looked slower (more tired) in the third period, and Harvard successfully implemented a very frustrating trap. What we saw in the third I imagine is what has frustrated so many opposing fans about playing Lowell these past few years, but when it is run successfully it turns into wins. Credit to Harvard now on to UConn.

I give Harvard lots of credit, especially their defense. Lowell had trouble most of the night trying to solve the Harvard defense. Harvard's sticks seemed to be in the right position all night long to deflect away scoring attempts.
