Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

Hi all, new to posting but have been reading the board for the last couple years. There's a ton of inside info you guys offer, so thanks for that.

Obviously the start of this season has been great and I'm mighty impressed with the play of the underclassmen and whole team in general. Here's my worry though... Boyle. I feel like the wins have been in spite of his play. He's seems to be rather passive and doesn't project much confidence, if one were to read body language.I know we've been spoiled by great goalie talent before, but I am scared to think he's going to be between the pipes for the season. I don't know, but I'm sure y'all will set me straight.

There, my first post, virgin no more.

Welcome to the board. Boyle's definitely not Connor, but I think he's been OK. The defense in front of him has generally done a good job of blocking shots and keeping the puck from him. He's had an issue with rebounds, which has been obvious. To be fair to him though, I think a full year plus of not playing in a real game ... the rust is showing. I do believe though that we will see the freshmen soon.

Too many penalties in the first, but still nice to have a 2-1 lead after one.

Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

giving up 5 powerplays is not something we want to be doing much, especially against a team like Quinnipiac.

Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

3-3 tie. Gambardella tied the game with 1:18 left in the third. Boyle was solid today, and huge in OT. Lowell was pretty lucky in this one. Horrible on the power play, and took too many penalties themselves, giving up 2 PK goals.

Agree on the penalties. Lowell has to play smarter.

Speaking of penalties, Jim Connelly reported that Quinnipiac coach Rand Pecknold received a game misconduct at the end of the game. Not sure if anyone has additional info, I lost the signal before they could finish discussing what happened.

And Rand Pecknold sounds like a German Shepard barking at officials during handshake line. Wanted an interference call; gets a bench minor

Anyone know anything on chapie? Concerning that we have not seen him.

Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

If someone was going to tell me Lowell would start the season 2-0-1, after all of the losses last year, playing BC and QUx2, I never would have believed it. I have to give Boyle a ton of credit thus far. After not playing for a year and a half and holding his own (with areas for improvement) in these three games is very impressive. To also do this without Chapie (lower body injury) for all three and McGrath for two, even more impressive.

Out of the newcomers, Francis is a very pleasant surprise. Not sure what his situation was as WMU, but I'm glad he's here so far. Smith and Lauria play off each other nicely, and mueller has been a competent D man thus far. Hopefully they keep this up. It's nice seeing a Norm team not struggle out of the gates. On to Michigan and Michigan State. Both games may potentially have big implications come the end of the season when it comes to the common opponent factor of PWR as BU and BC play either one or both of these teams.

x-check to the face and a plant into the boards that probably should have netted 5 (I didnt listen to all of the game, was checking out breweries)

edit: and checking the box score, don't see a 5 on there

Neither was worth a 5 - both the got a minor, which was the correct call.

And that hit against Wallin up on the boards could have been a lot worse.
