Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

From the BC thread:

"& the goalie is about a decade younger than half of UML's roster"

Whoa! They have an 11 to 14 year old kid playing out there? I had no idea Demko was so young!
If Doogie Howser can't handle the game out there, maybe they should get someone a bit older? An upper classmen in high school maybe?

Sorry the age thing people remark about always cracks me up.

It's a perfect built-in excuse.

When elite programs get the top young recruits they ooooh and ahhhh about "blue chip" this and "top recruiting class" that. The second they lose to a team with older players they trip over themselves to point out how much older the other roster is, like suddenly having young players is a handicap and they courageously choose to only have 18 year old freshman because it's "the right way".

It might be amusing if it wasn't so obviously pathetic.

 I don't care what excuse BC is making. That they are making any excuse after playing us is glorious. :D Does this mean we don't need to genuflect as they enter the building from now on?

Still love remembering the Boston Globe prewriting the article about how they beat us and accidentally publishing it before the game. It was taped in every locker and Lowell handed BC their hats.

Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

Are there any good places to eat/grab a drink down in Q land?
It'll be my first time heading down there and if there aren't really any good spots maybe i'll just try to find a spot along the way.

Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

Mikro is nice, good food, even better craft beer selection. Problem is it is very small so I would advise you to get there early because it will fill up quickly.

Side Street and Eli's are the places to go before the game. Both extremely close to the arena but they will be packed before games so I'd recommend go early and also going up to the arena before 6:40 cause traffic causes people to miss puck drop.

Thanks for the advice. We're leaving Lowell at 2:30ish so we should be down there by 4:30.

Any advice for me when I come up Friday? Food, parking, what time I should try to get there. Thanks

Beer Works... other than that, I got nothing, haven't been up in awhile.

I also recommend Beer Works. It's the closest place to the arena and the beer and food is good (they make their own beer on site). I would recommend getting there between 5:00 and 5:30 at the latest because it fills up and the wait for a table may be too long by 5:30. Also if you get there around 5:00 there should be plenty of metered spaces outside the restaurant for a $5 event flat rate.

There are other lots and a garage to park for $10-15, but try to get a meter first.

Edit: The lot parking rates may be even more expensive. I didn't pay attention last week.

One of the lots is 15$
Miss the days where I parked by the abandoned mill (now expensive lofts). Gentrification sucks!

The lot across from Beer Works is $15 (goes to $10 on nights where they're not expecting a huge crowd). The street parking is relatively cheap, but please note, if you're going in for the game, there's a $5 (I believe) event charge on the street parking as well.

Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

If you are willing to walk, the parking lots in Cumnock (no parking attendant) and Southwick( gate goes up) open up at 5 PM for free weekend parking. Its about a 15 minute walk to Beerworks/Tsongas from North, but just for awareness sake.

The spot to get food is cobblestones. Not far from the Tsongas. A 5 minute walk maybe? Parking has already been stated but if you're early, a metered spot is definitely the way to go. Beerworks food and brew isn't bad at all but Cobblestones is the better option in my mind.

Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March

Echoing others, Beer works is the closest with good beer and decent pub fare. If you're willing to walk 10-15 mins, my two current favorite restaurants in Lowell are Fuse and Tremonte. Fuse is funky eclectic takes on traditional dishes paired with creative drinks and local brews. Tremonte is great Northern Italian and the best Pizza I've ever had in Mass outside of the North End. They are casual, reasonable priced and right across the cobblestones from each other on Palmer Street.

Off topic: America East adds four schools as associate members in field hockey.

The America East Conference announced today that four institutions - University of California, Berkeley; University of California, Davis; University of the Pacific and Stanford University - have been accepted as associate members for field hockey beginning with the 2015-16 academic year.
