UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March Thread II

Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March Thread II

Yes that was weird, the online chart showed the place packed and when I bought my bring a friend tix their were no pairs together from center ice to the Talon club. Student turnout was weak.

Official attendance was 5514. About 500 short of a sellout, but above the season average.

True, #19 PWR still in contention.

At that point they'd have to win tonight then win 2-1, 2-0 in their opening and quarterfinal series... tough road. Ballparking naturally.

I think we need to win tonight then make the garden to have a strong chance of making it in... and even then it'll be a bit up in the air.

Also depends a lot on how some other teams finish. There are a couple of teams ahead of Lowell that are barely ahead in RPI. Just have to keep winning and hope for the best.

Also, it's mind boggling how St. Cloud, at 15-15-1, is ahead of Lowell. I don't care what the formula says, you shouldn't be up for an at large bid if you're not even above .500

I thought the crowd size was okay. The student section seemed sparse. Seems like less students are showing up less and less. I wonder if they count the season ticket bring a friend vouchers as tickets told even if they aren't redeemed? I've got to imagine they hold blocks of seats from online purchase to ensure there are seats available for anyone who shows up before the game with a voucher.

It's amazing that St. Cloud has a .500 record and is ahead of Lowell in the PWR. Hopefully for Lowell's sake North Dakota will sweep them tonight.

Edit: I didn't see Patronik's post before submitting this.

their strength of schedule is off of the charts. That being said, sub-500 and their out.

w0000t!!! Bye! Crazy game to watch.

Suppose it doesn't really matter anyway. I'd imagine you'd rather draw notre dame over nu anyway

ND might be a better matchup but missing out on that win will probably keep Lowell from making the NCAAs.

Yes, interesting twist. I was heartbroken that UML gave up that late goal that cost them 3rd place and the PWR hit hurts but I'd much rather have ND than NU.

BTW, whats the rule on a questionable non-goal like the INSIDE post UML hit about a minute before VT tied it? From my (and about 30 people near me) view UML scored but play never stopped to review.

I was in behind the goal on the back row and had a perfect view of that... I still am not sure what happened. I don't know the rule but hopefully someone looked at it because it was so close.

Great game tonight... we usually aren't as physical but both teams were really up for it. Also I always enjoy Tsongas. The crowd is into the game but not jerks, good sight lines, your marketing girl is hot but **** that PA can be a little obnoxious right?

First two periods of hockey were fun to watch. That third period was abysmal. No, I take that back. It was shockingly, horridly, abysmally f'in awful. A combined 8 shots. Only two for Lowell. We were just awful. Packed it in completely, like they had no interest in playing that third. And then in OT, they woke up, which is so freakin' frustrating to watch. Could have put the game away in the third, but nah ... we're just going to take this period off. It would be easier if you saw UVM play a great third and that would partially explain it, but no, the Cats were almost as bad.

BTW, worst weekend of refereeing I've seen in a long time. Some horrible non-calls, which were made worse by some of the ones that were actually called.

I wasn't happy with that 3rd period either. It was like the Hawks were content with that one goal lead and just stopped making plays.

Re: UMass Lowell 2014-2015 Season: The March to March Thread II

I can't imagine anyone was happy with that 3rd period. Throughout the game, I'm pretty sure our 'pass to tape' percentage was less than half our usual average. It's like they were aiming to pass to the skate, or 6" behind the skate.

I hope the coaching staff and upperclassmen can pull out the leadership and get us on a better path or our NCAA run will either be done at 3 straight or be an ugly first-round exit out west.
