Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

So, was curious to hear people’s thoughts/opinions regarding the Riverhawk players from NAHL league. If my memory serves me correct, not too many former players came from this league in our history. Current roster of NAHL folks include:

Adam Chapie
AJ White
Christian Folin
Connor Hellebuyck

Hellebuyck and Folin have been great addition to the defense, and I have seen flashes of good play on Chapie. However, I haven’t seen or heard much on White.

Thoughts? And do you think this is a league to get future players from?

I'm not sure what exactly you're asking. But there's no reason to skip recruiting the #2 league in the country. IMHO, the NAHL is better than the EJ. There are players everywhere, they just need to be found.

I don't think we've seen enough of Chapie or White yet to really judge them. I really like what Folin's bought, and Hellebuyck is proving himself right in front of us.

It's a modern era... We have players from two of the harder corners of the US... San Diego and Miami. Most of the good players will centralize to the leagues... These leagues improve in stature based on their ability to feed kids to NCAA and Canadian MJ. I'm sure everybody is sending around "tape"... DVDs and other film. The kids are being seen and occasionally there will be an "off the radar" guy (Synitsyn) but even those guys aren't truly off the radar.

We will get them anywhere you can, the rest is human capital investment in coaching connections.

Well, if memory serves me correct, we never had many players from the NAHL, so wanted to hear peoples thoughts.

I was curious because I don't think many recruits coming in next year are from the USHL... and if the NAHL was a growing trend, what are peoples thoughts on the league.

OK, that makes sense.

Well for a few years, it looked like we were heavily going after OPJHL kids. Then the last couple of years of MacDonald, you saw more USHL players coming. The USHL is considered the best league, by a mile, for college level.

From what I've heard and seen the order is:
USHL
BCHL
NAHL

Then the OPJHL, EJHL, CJHL, SJHL, AJHL, etc.

Of the recruits currently known to be coming in next year, 1 each from the EJHL, BCHL and USHL. I doubt Shea will come next year, he'll be pushed to '14 (just a guess). I can see another BCHL player coming in '13 though.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

Yes, heading up Friday PM.

Does anyone know what the reason ( other than disappointment in losing ) for Clarkson leaving the ice directly after the game Friday? No handshakes, no crowd acknowledgement .. just straight to the locker room?

Very, very helpful - thanks so much!

Is anyone heading to Burlington this weekend?
Go-UML and MaryK are as well, that's all I know.

I wasn't there. I have seen though at times when teams play back to back (on one ice), the first night, the two teams don't shake hands. That's the only occasion (outside of fights at the end of the game) that I've seen it.

Welcome.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

As we get into HE play for the rest of the season (less the Beanpot), Mike McMahon looks at the expanded HE standings, and remaining SOS for each team.

This was the reason we thought when we saw it. Not unusual and it wasn't like one team snubbed the other doing it and there was certainly no acrimony and they immediately lined up for the handshake on Sat nite.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

Should be a tough weekend but i believe we can come away with a sweep 3-2 OT win Friday and a 4-2 win Saturday

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

I'd love to see this team have a statement weekend where they just tell everyone ... "OK, now we're awake."

I don't trust that this team has it in them though.

Two close games this weekend, and sadly I can see a split. Prove me wrong Hawks!

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

I want the 'hawks to be angry they left a point on the table back in October.
I want them to show last year wasn't a fluke.
I want domination soup to nuts.

Mostly I just want out of 8th place.
