Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread
Truth be told none of us should necessarily care what the polls look like but to look at it and analyze it a little, I have to think UML is clearly getting some serious benefit of the doubt.
- UML is one of two sub-.500 teams in the top 20.
- UML's only win is against 3-3-0 (.500) CC. While a road win certainly gets UML some "bonus points", but CC has wins against Clarkson x2 (both 1-goal home wins) and a solid win at AFA, not exactly a murderer's row. On a 3-game losing streak started by UML, will this UML win continue to lose its luster?
- The home tie doesn't exactly inspire confidence since it was vs UVM. The longer UVM goes without a win the worse this tie will look for UML.
It's early, we'll see how things shake out - things are still very much a blend of preseason on paper strength and the results we have. But not for much longer. Another bad weekend and UML is going to drop out completely.
Being under .500 isn't foreign territory for the program, that's for sure!
I'm not for the only reason that the three losses have come at the hands of top-ranked Boston College and #3 Denver, two of them on the road in places where opposing teams don't see many wins. Bottom line, I think Lowell is getting that benefit of the doubt that the scoring is in a slump and expected to rebound. A simple lack of scoring and costly penalties is holding this team back big time.
