UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

So obviously there is a lot of hockey left to play and this Lowell team needs to play better, but with the results from this weekend, there really is no place in Hockey East that Lowell can't reach (positive position). Lowell is currently 5pts behind BC, with 2 games in hand and one more against the Eagles. Theoretically, if Lowell wins those two games and the game against BC, they will pass them in the standings. Now I do not think this will happen because next week starts February and that's when BC realized its BC and destroys everyone, but it is something to keep an eye on if this team can take care of business against the teams it should beat.

What a terrible two and a half periods but what a great end. The ice was tilted so far for Lowell at the end. Great crowd! I know of one future UML commit being at the game. He posted on twitter all night including:

@DJgamz5: First time in the UMass arena sold out crowd! Absolutely insane! #loveit#RiverhawkNation

And:

@DJgamz5: UMass comes from behind 4-1 in the third and wins in OT! UNREAL GAME! #Riverhawks!#LETSGO!

Hope he goes back to the USHL and tells his friends how great Lowell is! Great time tonight. 2, much needed points.

Sounds like he loved the game. Didn't know Amherst had a sell out also tonight, thought they were up at Vermont (and they lost 3-2).

:)

what a game! Seriously great fight in Lowell to comeback from three goals down. Lets go Lowell.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

For 45 minutes this was the worst game I saw UML play this year. No urgency, no hustle, everyone coasting around. Power plays were awful. We had 5-3 twice and barely got off a shot. We looked tired. Ironically, Folin was my #1 el sucko player, the guy was in slow-mo in periods 1 and 2. We did get screwed by the refs, I think it was goal 3 for NU, obvious offside and the diallowed goal looked like it bounced out of the back of the net from my prime view in 104. That all aside this was one of the greatest comebacks I've ever seen and will go down in my top 5 UML games I've been at in 10 years of going! The place was absolutely packed and it seemed not a soul there didn't believe it was possible even down 4-1. Wow!!! Just freakin incredible. The team must have realized how lucky they are to be playing in front of 7000 people in a beautiful arena after last nights depressing atmosphere. I hate to say it but we were like just like BU tonight: Play lazy arse hockey all night against a team with way less talent then wake up and pull the win out of our butts. I screamed myself hoarse.

First of all.. nice to meet you in person Fishhawk!

Second, my wife and I want to thank the family who came mid way through the second period who had the cutest 3 year old girl. (Yes they were late, but they had like 6 kids, likely took them time to get there) All she wanted to do was to ring my wife's cowbell. This kept our spirits high as UML was playing poorly and the game looked grim. I think things happen for a reason and this little girl kept our interest in the game and didn't allow us to get pessimistic. She kept us cheering even though we were down 4-1. Never underestimate the power of a child.

Nevermind, what can I say ?
How about " I am glad all the fans left happy" - the old saying applies 'leave the best for last and that is all they will remember'. Hopefully we will have many more big happy crowds to come.
That has got to be a gut wrenching weekend for the opposition though.

ps : Glad to see the Ruhwedel's there, hope they made it to Friday's game to see the goal(!) of the year.

The disallowed goal from your side of the arena was a great optical illusion. However, it was confirmed by the overhead cameras that the puck did indeed hit the post and not cross the goal line. Must have been from the angle of the shot that convinced many that it was indeed a goal.

Optical illusion or what our eyes wanted to see, or both.

Nice to meet you too Weatherman! Cool story about the girl and the cowbell, we had a similar experience with a late-coming young family. I was with my 3 teen/tween girls who all got the freebee pink greek council t-shirts on the way in. We heard the 5 year old girl next to us ask her dad why everyone had the same pink shirts on and he explained that they got in too late for her to get one so my 14 year old gave her shirt to the little kid which made her a very happy camper.

Thanks Pressbox I'm glad to hear that disallowed goal wasn't a bad call. Hopeful and biased yes, but it really looked good to a lot of savy attentive fans in 104 and 105. Not that it mattered cause we won anyway!!!

What happened with the cell phone light show? What an epic fail!

Hope his USHL pals tell him that it's not UMass that he's loving. :D

I saw something last night that indicated that there may have been HS seniors that had been accepted to UML at the game last night. Hopefully they were having the time of their lives and will become rabid fans as they walk on campus this fall.

Injury update anyone ? I think it is safe to assume it is not sickness.
It is illness and hopefully he'll be good to go next weekend. BTW, it's never safe to assume.

Bazin said after Fridays night game that Connor had an injury and was day to day.

It's my understanding that it was a technical issue on the developers side. They are supposed to do another show in the area soon. Based on those results, they may or may not be asked back for the February 16th game.

On another note, Happy Anniversary to the Tsongas Center. It was on this date 15 years ago that the building was opened to the public for the UML hockey game vs Dartmouth.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

Even though there are many games before the 16th, that game against UMass needs to get here. Best promotion ever. Who doesn't love pucks and paws?

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread

Not sure if I've seen anyone else make mention of this, but did anyone else find the pink ice very distracting? I complete applaud the intention (along with everything else that was "pink") but my eyes had a really hard time with the ice. Especially as the periods wore on and ice got worn....
