UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread III

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread III

Really hate that Lowell could end up in Toledo or Grand Rapids while UNH gets their own backyard no matter what. I guess I'll root for UNH today so that Yale gets knocked down a bit..

Somewhat off-topic, what are the requirements to host a regional? I know Providence, Bridgeport, Worcester, Manchester are bigger than Tsongas, but they're not bigger by THAT much. And besides, the attendance at the regionals has been pretty weak the last few years. Maybe mixing it up and having it at Lowell would bring attendance up. We finished 11th in the country in overall home attendance and we're withing easy driving distance for all the Boston schools and most of the rest of Hockey East.

UMA hosted it at Mullins 8 years ago. Seems there is a reticence to trying new places but having it at Tsongas isn't out of the question and if anyone can do it, Marty can make it happen.

Any idea which loge section the UML fans will be in at the Garden? I won tickets in a raffle but they are high up in the balcony and I'm thinking of moving down.
From the goriverhawks.com site ...
Tickets are available through the Tsongas Center Box Office beginning Monday at 10:00AM until Wednesday at 12:00PM. Order in person or by phone at 978-934-5738. UMass Lowell's allotment is located in Sections 21/22 (Loge) and Section 330 (Balcony).

The strike against Tsongas continues to be building capacity... I suppose if regional numbers aren't making their mark it would make Tsongas more feasible... But Agganis would also come into play

I don't know, just have to win out but even absent that, we didn't even make the Garden last year and we were east in Bridgeport. Formulas, calculus, TUC, voodoo, and Nostradamus aside, if UML doesn't fit in Manchester I'm sure NCAA will do everything possible to keep them in Providence for attendance reasons. It's closer than Bridgeport and there were a ton of UML fans there. Can't imagine how many more UML fans there would be even in Providence given how much closer it is than Bridgeport.

I'm mainly hoping for Manchester because I work in Salem, so not too far of a drive from work

I hear you but if it was a choice between not seeing them at all because they were shipped out west or Providence, I'd take Providence. Absent that, it will be the viewing party at the SportsZone in Dracut which I'd end up having to go to.

And it's no gurantee that UNH is even in yet. On the NESN postgame show today, Connolly was running through the national picture and said the only two HE teams that are a lock at the moment are UML and BC. UNH was sort of in but he was alluding to all sorts of variables that could keep UNH out. Let's hope for that and then it would be Manchester!

You can't make providence?

As for UNH... yeah, if the underdogs make a mad sweep of the conf tourneys then UNH could be in trouble.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread III

Providence is about 10 mins closer to me than Manchester but I'll be Ok with either. Mostly hoping for the starts to align and keep UNH out to keep their fans away.....

I can make Providence, it was the other fan who would have more difficulty as Manchester was closer to him. If they're shipped out west, it's SportZone in Dracut for me. I'm pretty much rooting for every underdog in the other tournaments.

Yeah, I don't like it either but its only because it'll cost me more and it won't be nearly as fun without everybody.

That's the best way of avoiding getting shipped anywhere. Hypothetically, I'd have a hard time accepting that a RS and Tourney Winner would be moved to protect a host, regardless of conference. If so, the calls to remove that rule would go through the roof.

How about if PC wins the HE title and they get shipped even though the city is hosting the Regional?

UNH CANNOT be a fourth seed... so that REALLY doesn't help us... unless we win out. I haven't even thought about running contingency simulations. I'm going to bed soon so I'm running to 10,000 draws for the overall. I'll look at contingencies a bit more tomorrow.

Actually, Brown is the host at Providence. Were they to win out, it might force Quinnipiac elsewhere, leaving room for us if we were a #1 seed.

Oh I know Brown is the host...just funny that to help attendance they would send PC in the road

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread III

NESN just conveniently left off our number last night:

1

I think the only way it wouldn't happen would be if UNH was the 13th overall seed (highest rating 4th seed).
