Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread III

NESN just conveniently left off our number last night:

1
That's because there is no number that truly signifies how awesomely awesome Lowell is. ;)

10th matchup between Lowell and PC the last two years. Last year, they finished 3-3. So far, Lowell leads 2-1 this year...

CC's win last night put Lowell back to a t-6th in Pairwise.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread III

Cool to see that Lowell's Club Team also won their division.

Also...
Hockey East ‏@hockey_east
MEN: @ProAmbitions Rookie of the Week: Connor Hellebuyck (UML) The River Hawks G stopped 42/45 shots in a 2 game quarterfinal sweep of Maine

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread III

I wonder when BC will stop being ranked just because of their name.

It is amusing.... must be from sweeping a powerhouse Vermont team, while Lowell just squeaked by a struggling Maine team

Last 10 games
• bc is 5-3-2
• UML is 9-1-0

Last 25 games
• bc 12-9-4
• UML 20-4-1

Is the Tsongas Box office charging the convenience fee that Ticketmaster gouges out of you when you order online? $11 fee per ticket is outrageous!

Yea I know... I hate those teams that rely on their "name"...

PWR
BC: 4
UML: 6

RPI
UML: 4
BC: 5

BC vs. UML 2-1-0

ps - UML has a worse SOS than BC in both the RPI and KRACH. Good luck Friday.

If it were all numbers I have no argument. Not arguing the overall numbers, etc. I am probably incorrect but my interpretation of rankings is they should reflect the performance/current place they would be in, not what the cummulative result would be. In a Hypothetical situation, a team that loses the every game the last 1/2 of their season but was monsterously good the first 1/2 half should not be ranked as high as a team that won the last 1/2 and lost every game at the beginning. I would expect the latest part of the season would be more reflective of their potential results (which is how I view a ranking) than if they were brilliant at the beginning.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread III

Lowell moves up to #5, with a first place vote. Trying to remember if they've ever been this high this late in the season?

For the USCHO poll, the answer is no. They reached #6 on February 13 last year, which was their highest for so late in the season.

According to the media guide, they were #6 at this time in 1994 and 1996 as well.

"Rankings" are pointless. Once we get past that point, I'm ok with that and understand your point of view. It comes up a lot when talking about PWR. There used to be a criteria, Last16, which was thrown away some years ago. That was good because really it is kind of dumb to say a game in October shouldn't count for as much as a game in March. They all count the same. All that being said, I think you'd be surprised to see how many teams lose steam that have great records over the 2nd half of the year (BC is not excluded from this although generally they go berserk in March/April) and lose games to teams that do poorly going into the tournaments. Lastly, some results may have to do with players being injured over one half and a team being healthy over the other half.

There's a lot at play. I don't think after looking at KRACH, PWR, RPI, BC vs. UML H2H, etc, that BC has earned their ranking based on their name, which is what was said above, seemed foolish to me. They're still sitting at 4 in PWR for a reason.

Yeah - you had a very good first 18 games. Well, except for that Minnesota game... and that Northeastern game. ;)

"But hey, it's not every day a program wins 29 out of 30 games."
Good job, I see you didn't forget that Northeastern game.
