Well, look on the bright side, you almost positively will not be playing us at Alfond again this year. :) In fact, I guarantee it.

What a terrible pass, right on Diamonds stick. After some nice chances by Lowell. It's going to be a long ride home.
Diamond picks off a bad cross ice pass in the Lowell zone, right at the blue line. He walked in all alone making two or three moves before putting the puck past Carr. A tough way to lose after carrying the play in OT. I just wish Lowell did a little more in the 3rd period. Maine seemed to carry much of the play and Lowell didn't generate very many good chances.

Who's this Joey Diamond and Tim Whitehead and why can't we beat teams like that.

Forget about NCAAs at this point...time to track where we are going for the playoffs.

Well, now we feel like this for real.

Every season is about making the NCAAs. Every single one. Other events are the landmarks but every season that goal is the same.

Keep on aiming low and that is exactly what you will get.

I agree!

Maine gets its first home win on the day of "The Feast of St. Blaise". Don't shoot the messenger.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread II

You missed the point entirely... and winning the league is a strong indicator that you are just that good... I'd rather make the NCAAs the next 5 years than make the HEA Semis the next 5 years... now, one will often mean the other, but that being said, league position to me only matters in as far as QF opponent and location as to how it affects the NCAAs... most years we're so far out the NCAAs don't matter.

Fact of the matter is we need to win, but I'm not going to spend a lot of time looking at the schedule. I want home ice, that is a goal, but it is not the end itself. The end is the NCAAs.

As for making the NCAA's you both are probably on the right track. You could either win well in HEA or just well enough to qualify. UML has fate in their own hands as to home ice as the 3 teams just ahead of them are all on the schedule for two more games each. Sweep two of them and you'll be in fine shape for home ice.

However I think the argument used against you Patman is for winning the NCAA tournament. It is highly unlikely to win it all unless you win Hockey East in the regular season and the tournament as well. The NCAA champions that didn't win those had some incredible luck along the way. BC won that game in Worcester over top ranked Miami in OT on a spectacular diving goal by Joe Whitney after Miami had been robbed by John Muse. So if you want a realistic shot at an NCAA crown you better be thinking win Hockey East first. Even UNH can tell you that that alone is not enough.

Sigh... you're talking to somebody who deals in probability and events for a living. High caliber teams tend to win the titles... but if you happen to get one by luck you're not likely to get the next one... of course winning it often means you're that good....

So, what i'm saying is that often a league championship is an important event... but an overall season long season standing is often more indicative of your actual ability.

If a bad team manages to win the HEA tournament (unlikely) it does not mean that it'll give them further success down the line.

Well, that was a brutal weekend.

At least it gets easier this Friday night ... oh wait ... @ BC.

Sigh.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread II

The River Hawks lost twice to BC back in October, but I see a different outcome this time. Looking forward to seeing this game on NESN (unless it's pulled for the Bruins).
