UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread II

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread II

Carr will be starting tonight.
Last weekend was a tough one for Dougie, we are all aware of that. However, he has proved to be an excellent goaltender in the past, and I still believe he is one of the best in the conference. He was able to bounce back from a nagging injury his first year on the job, and I truly believe he can get passed this challenging time. As much as the injury was physical, it’s a greater challenge from a mental standpoint. New coach, system, teammates and battling an injury takes tremendous focus, determination and mental power. This is why I see Dougie bouncing back against MC. Have faith UML Fans.

I hope Carr does well tonight but this year he does not have it. His below 90% save percentage says it all.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread II

Yeah hopefully Doug will regain his 2011 - 2012 form. Gotta wonder what's up with Connor. His game against PC on 1/17 was stellar 31 saves and I don't remember any pause or concern. Then he disappears for 2 weeks? Is Norm generally up front on injury stuff or is he cagey? I guessed he got the flu when he wasn't even on the bench for the mathews arena game but they are saying injury right?

When he did not dress for the NU game, Norm said Connor had an injury and was day to day.

I am not expert at this like some of you but I can't say I saw him in net at practice in the 'weekend edition Lowell video'

A two week sickness that hits between Thursday (Prov.) and Saturday ( BU ) would be quite rare ? It scares me only because noone has really said anything, even Wetmore's shoulder this year and hand last year were more forthcoming it seems to me.
I do hope Carr bounces back from last weekend, need a BIG weekend before next Friday's clash.

You never know if he was sick for the PC game and just fought it...?

I do wish Lowell was more forthcoming, because the speculation (that's gone from grades to I don't know what) is causing a problem.

And to clarify, I'm not calling anyone out on this ... like I said, more blaming Lowell's staff.

I'm curious who this is causing a problem for and why you are blaming anyone. The team probably knows what is up. The fans are the ones who are speculating and want to know. It would be nice to know but it isn't necessary for the team to be successful. Just sayin'

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread II

Half watching, half listening to Bob. Not feeling a sense of urgency except for Bob getting frustrated with all the penalties. Not having a good feeling.

Cant blame Dougie at all really. He played great tonight and the defense was really limiting Merrimacks' chances. Sustained offensive pressure just isnt their

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread II

Power Play did this team in. Again we had two 5 on 3s
And we could capitalize. Need a win Sunday afternoon in Orno

That and the ice is usually horrible. Did they finally fix that this yr?

This was the away game I used to go to all the time but the last few yrs I just couldn't get up for it. It seems they have been on Friday nights and I work until 6ish. I have no desire to try to race to the rink, hike 3/4 of a mile to the rink through the half lit campus to watch hockey in a rink that someone made for Honey I shrunk the kids. It used to be my favorite rink until they started to make all the 'improvements' and we started to have a team that is quick. Now it seems they can't get going before the end of the rink looms. I guess I am showing my grumpy old age. :p

If you don't think that speculation about a player's grades aren't a problem ... then I don't know what to tell you.

About the game itself, the power play was pathetic, and as was also mentioned, they lost seemingly every faceoff during the power plays. Nice rebound game for Carr, he played well and deserved better than he got. Frustrating result against a MC team that spent a lot of time in the box, and it should have been more. A bunch of hacks ... after the final buzzer, Ruhwedel is skating away and Bly goes up behind him and cross checks him right in the small of the back. That crap was going on all night.

Wasn't able to make the game tonight, but I'm glad I didn't waste the $40 on two tickets and watched it on TV. Once again, Merrimack College can't find their way out of the box and once again, this season's Lowell team can not capitalize on an insane amount of PP chances. Merrimack simply won all of the battles and got the only one they needed. Not much else can be said for a 1-0 game. I don't know if they were thinking ahead to the trip to Maine, but they really didn't exert much physical play, if any at all.

Tonight's Report Card:

Goaltending: A
Defense: A-
Offense: F
Power Play: F

Pretty much all you need to know for the game.
