Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread II

To add one more comment, I really want a tie between BC and Merrimack tomorrow. The thought of potentially playing for first place next weekend is awesome.

Congratulations to Lowell btw. We're in the playoffs.

Six in a row at home, can't wait for next weekend.
Is there a good reason not to ride Hellebuyck all the way to the Gillies rematch weekend ? He had a month off and Carr really hasn't had a great night all year, we need to keep the momentum rolling.
Really looking to 3+ years of Hellebuyck vs Gillies ; and their respective defenses of course.

Edit : I realize we have three games in the next week.
McGrath's took a good slash at the bench w/1:00 left, hope wrist/hand alright as that line is looking good. It took awhile but it is nice to see
Wetmore and Arnold together again.

I think we see Carr play one of the next 3. The 5 games in 10 days is a pretty packed schedule. I think having a "day" off for Hellebuyck would help. If I were Bazin, I would play Carr on Tuesday and run Hellebuyck through MC next weekend. IMO the MC games are more important then the BC game.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread II

Let's hope the unplanned "bye" weekend courtesy of the blizzard can get some guys healthy, regain the focus they had during the streak, and keep our home-ice prospects in sight. We can't afford any more zero-point weekends.

I think the boys heard me loud and clear on this statement.

5 games left... Even if we somehow take the lead in the league we have to keep it...

Just keep taking points

#11 in the PWR rankings.

So fun things to think about ... win on Tuesday night, hope Merrimack ties or loses at BU ... and Lowell is tied for first place in Hockey East.

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread II

Looking at the bright side of today's result for a moment...

At least Merrimack is just a point back after completing the game they had in hand on us. Considering how [Merrimack] played and the chances that BC gave them, the Eagles are very fortunate that they came away with any points, let alone two. Hopefully, the boys will not allow BC to use this game as a springboard on Tuesday as both teams are going to be flying high after big wins.

On the flip side, the Merrimack // BU game is just as intriguing, since both teams had "disappointing weekends". A Merrimack win would force BU to pretty much run the table against a rather soft schedule (2 x UVM, H/H w/NU) to be in the conversation for home ice. A BU win and suddenly they aren't the team that looking in on home ice from the outside. Whatever happens on Tuesday, let's hope Merrimack doesn't net any points to pull them even further ahead of us going into a weekend where three points are going to be needed just to pull even with them.

Another thing to add just to really show how tight the Hockey East race is:

If the Merrimack // BU game ends in a tie and we get the win over BC, its a 5-way tie at the top.

Hopefully we can keep going strong and make the work week a little more enjoyable

I have mixed feelings on that. I'd almost rather concede a home playoff birth to MC and have BU get knocked down another peg, then focus on stealing PC's spot. It would be just like BU to come to their senses and beat MC then grab 6 or 7 points against weak opponents to finish the season. Given we already lost to MC, have to play another one in their rink and that they finish against a weak UMass team, it will be a very tough to pull ahead of them. PC is much more vulnerable with their tough 4 games against BC and us.

Don't get me wrong, the higher we finish the better but I'm just craving the home ice playoff series. An interesting scenario would be if BC, UNH and MC took the top spots, we took 4th and BU & PC finished tie for 5th. BU would get the tie breaker and would be coming back to the Tsongas for round 1. Allow yourself just for a few seconds, the thought of knocking BU out the HEA tournament and in the process dashing their hopes for an NCAA slot.

Nearly a sweep of the Hockey East Weekly Awards:

Lowell is named Team of the Week.
Pendenza named Player of the Week
Hellebuyck named Co-Rookie of the Week

Re: UMass Lowell '12/'13 Season Thread II

Already starting to get antsy for the game tonight. [/url]
You're not kidding ... nervous and excited. I keep thinking a win tonight and man, is that Merrimack River Rivalry going to ratchet up this weekend.

The question is in regards to BC's 4-1-1 record over their last 6 ... is this the start of their normal run at the end of the year where they just blow by the competition? Here's (obviously) hoping not.
